KDM crashes on startup
by Patrick O'Callaghan
F13 fully updated.
kdm-4.4.3-1.fc13.1.x86_64
xorg-x11-server-Xorg-1.8.0-12.fc13.x86_64
xorg-x11-drivers-7.3-14.fc13.x86_64
On rebooting after the last update, I get a console instead of the KDM
login screen. This is what I see in /var/log/messages:
Jun 3 00:35:09 bree kdm: :0[27754]: Fatal X server IO error: Interrupted system call
I can run KDE via xstart so it's not the end of the world, but obviously
I'd like to fix this. My video is Intel an 82Q963/Q965 on the mobo.
Remember, in F13 Intel video only works with KMS.
I don't see any KDM-related bugs in Fedora BZ, so I'll file it if
necessary.

Shutdown Issue
by Eli Wapniarski
Hi All
I was wondering if anyone else has any experience with this.
A colleague at work recently upgraded from F12 to 13 on his Dell
Inspirion 1545 with an ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4330. Everything seems
to be working just fine, except, when he initiates a shutdown it hangs
at the end.
I think it might have something to do with the opensource driver,
because when he had the proprietary driver installed from rpmfusion
for F12 there was no such issue. When he had the opensource driver
installed in F12 before the proprietary driver became available, his
computer experienced the same issue. Now that there is no proprietary
driver available for F13 again he is forced to use the opensource
driver. Mind you, the performance has improved immensely, but he still
can't shutdown the computer correctly.
Any ideas

color scheme, exclude applications
by Dj YB
hello,
I have this little problem, I like a specific color scheme but unfortunately
it's not suitable for all applications.
for example Kmail and Kontact in general looks great with it but OpenOffice apps
are unusable, can't see a thing.
so my question is if and how can I exclude an application from the color
scheme or perhaps apply to it specifically a different color scheme.
thanks,
YB.

Cursor icon
by Timothy Murphy
What determines which cursor icon is used within applications?
I'm trying to use qcad and inkscape to trace a house plan,
and need a sharp pointer, but get a hand icon instead.
Is there any way of getting the pointer I want?

Just updated 4.4.85
by Eli Wapniarski
First off congrats on the packaging everything updated smooth as silk.
Now given all the complaints and finally seeing things with my own eyes. :(
Might I suggest a development branch in the repository? If I recall correctly,
there were many mentions that functionality will return as the development
progresses for the push to 4.5. However, in the meantime a development branch
would allow the updates and testing development versions such as 4.4.85 while
continuing to allow for as cautious as possible testing of more stable
versions, from the time they are initially pushed (unstable) to considered
stable (but of course with the testing done by a relatively small number of
users - kde-redhat.testing) to more wide spread testing (testing) to final
release (updates).
As it stands 4.4.85 yuch :P - eek!. :o

Slight Firefox problem
by Timothy Murphy
Apologies if this is not a KDE problem
(I'm running Fedora-13/KDE),
but the slide control on the right of the Firefox window
does not seem to work properly nowadays.
If I click on the downward arrow
the view starts going down the page
and there is no way of stopping it
until the slide control has reached the bottom.
In effect, the only way of reading a long page
is to use the space bar to go down one window-full.
The down arrow on the keyboard sometimes works,
but not always.
I'm wondering if there is some setting I could make.

Slightly OT: tracing a bit-map
by Timothy Murphy
My excuse for asking this question here
is that I'm running Fedora 13 with KDE.
I've scanned a house plan as a JPEG,
and would like to convert this for use with qcad.
Can anyone suggest a simple way of doing this?
QCad does not seem to offer any way of tracing
a bit map.

kde 4.4.80-1 & 4.4.85
by tJohn Rosich
Thanks for the releases. We've been running the rawhide and Fedora 13
versions (86_64 and i686 - fully updated) for a few weeks now and have
the following comments to date (comments apply to both versions):
1. Dolphin crashes - it always happens when the cursor is positioned
over a '.rpm' file. Other times, it crashes spontaneously. No error
messages in either case.
2. Slow response - while the response time between initiating an action
(for example, deleting a file) and it's successful completion is
generally speedy/normal, on occasion (1 out of 7-8 times) the turn-over
time is very slow. For example, the system took about 45 seconds to
delete a 11KB file before we could proceed to the next activity in that
folder (which, btw, was deletion of a 5 MB file --- the turnover was
virtually instantaneous).
3. Desktop settings - on all machines, our custom background settings
were replaced by the default setting. With '80.1' this happened only
when it was installed; with the '.85' edition, the replacement happens
on each reboot.
Systems -- i686 and x86_64 Fedora 14 with above kde and latest updates.
In all cases, these are fresh installs.
We've tried logging in as a regular user, new user and root with the
same result.
We appreciate help in resolving these issues.
