hybrid-sleep with Gnome
by Samuel Sieb
My laptop sometimes doesn't turn back on after suspending, so I've
decided to try using hybrid-sleep instead. I modified logind.conf to
contain the following two lines and restarted logind:
HandleSuspendKey=hybrid-sleep
HandlePowerKey=hybrid-sleep
However, both keys still only cause a suspend. "systemctl hybrid-sleep"
does work properly. I was going to ask if Gnome was intercepting the
keys and doing its own thing with them, but then I remembered how to
check. Sure enough, from "systemd-inhibit":
Who: samuel (UID 1000/samuel, PID 1667/gsd-media-keys)
What: handle-power-key:handle-suspend-key:handle-hibernate-key
Why: GNOME handling keypresses
Mode: block
Does anyone know how to change Gnome's handling of the suspend key? It
used to be possible, but they removed all those options. As much as I
like Gnome, it does get a bit frustrating how much they are making it
"our way is the only way"... I have filed a bug upstream:

Access to Android
by Patrick Dupre
Hello,
I am not sure that I should post this message here.
Is there an Android mailing list?
I cannot access to my Android phone via the USB bus.
Actually, I can see it:
ls
/var/run/user/1000/gvfs/mtp\:host\=%5Busb%3A001%2C007%5D
but
a touch provides me:
'/var/run/user/1000/gvfs/mtp:host=%5Busb%3A001%2C007%5D/test': Permission denied
How can I give the right to the internal folder
of my Android?
Thank.

VNC alternatives
by Robert Moskowitz
It seems Tiger-vncserver is broken WRT polkit for any spin other than
gnome. Definitely not Xfce that I use. The work around is nasty:
Connect via SSH and run vncserver from the command line. But probably
can do it better via SCREEN and just forget about that screen session...
So it is time to look at the alternatives. I know they are out there
and have been talked about on this list, but my search foo is weak (as
always). So can I have a bit of help in figuring out what to replace my
decades-old connection to VNC?
thanks

Adding and removing a user in F28
by Kevin Wilson
Hi, all.
On F28, when I am running
useradd test10
A new folder is generated:
/home/test10/
But when I run:
userdel test10
this folder remains.
This same is when
adduser test11
and them
userdel test11
/home/test11 remains.
Is this an expected behaviour ?
Is there a way to cause the home folder of a user to be removed when
removing a user ?

Fedora 28 DM -
by Bob Goodwin
.
Two questions, my googling has not provided satisfactory answers for the
first one.
How do I show what desktop manager is running?
What desktop did the Fedora Xfce Spin come with?

Trouble getting Ipsilon working
by Trever L. Adams
I have been watching ipsilon for a while now. I thought I might give it
a try.
Following the documentation on the project site I have done this:
1) Install ipsilon packages
# dnf install ipsilon ipsilon-base ipsilon-openidc ipsilon-saml2
ipsilon-authgssapi ipsilon-authpam ipsilon-authform ipsilon-infosssd
2) Make necessary keytab using Samba as it will be the Kerberos and LDAP
backend. kinit administrator@DOMAIN export
KRB5_KTNAME=FILE:/etc/httpd/conf/http.keytab net ads keytab CREATE net
ads keytab FLUSH net ads keytab ADD HTTP unset KRB5_KTNAME
3) Install Ipsilon
ipsilon-server-install --gssapi=yes --pam=yes --openidc=yes --saml2=yes
--admin-user administrator@REALM
I cannot login as root, I cannot as the domain administrator or any
other Samba known user. This is with gssapi or pam/form.
Is there more documentation for this anywhere? Has anyone set this up to
work with Samba or MS AD?
Thank you for any help.

I eMailed the support address a month ago. No joy.
Anyone reading this have an input with those guys to

somewhat offtopic
by bruce
Hi.
Doing a test to install drupal8 on a fed/centos7 droplet (digitalocean).
Since I'm not trying to get into sysAdmin stuff yet, I (perhaps
stupidly) decided to disable systemd/selinux. (An article I'm
following said this was ok). I'm now running into an issue where I get
the following
sudo chcon -R -t httpd_sys_content_rw_t /var/www/html/drupal/sites/
chcon: can't apply partial context to unlabeled file ‘README.txt’
chcon: can't apply partial context to unlabeled file ‘default.services.yml’
chcon: can't apply partial context to unlabeled file ‘default.settings.php’
chcon: can't apply partial context to unlabeled file ‘settings.php’
chcon: can't apply partial context to unlabeled file ‘default’
chcon: can't apply partial context to unlabeled file ‘development.services.yml’
chcon: can't apply partial context to unlabeled file
‘example.settings.local.php’
chcon: can't apply partial context to unlabeled file ‘example.sites.php’
chcon: can't apply partial context to unlabeled file
‘/var/www/html/drupal/sites/’
Can I assume that this is due to selinux being disabled? And I can
therefore skip this step in the process??
Once I actually get the app up/working with everything "disabled" I'll
probably take a stab at getting things working with systemd/selinux
fully enabled.
thanks

ViewSonic VX2452MH resolution issue
by wgelpi@redhat.com
I recently purchased a ViewSonic VX2452MH monitor. I have it set up as an external monitor for my Thinkpad T470S using Fedora 27. When the resolution is set to 1920 x 1080 the right side of the display gets "truncated". It' just about a 1/4" to 1/8" of the screen, but it's enough to be bothersome. I'm curious if anyone else has encountered a similar issue and if so what the resolution was.
System details:
Model: Thinkpad T470S
Gnome: Version 3.26.2
Graphics: Intel® HD Graphics 620 (Kaby Lake GT2)
