Trying to track the CSN only yielded that the same CSN was tried *many* times without success. 

I can't seem to figure how to turn on the replication logging.
ldapmodify -D "cn=directory manager" -W
dn: cn=config
changetype: modify
replace: nsslapd-errorlog-loglevel
nsslapd-errorlog-loglevel: 8192

Then reset it to zero to disable replication logging.

Hopefully something will be in there to explain the error 53.
