Well, I did the vlvindex command from the Console, which apparently did several indexes on
it's own. All counted I have 28 which were autogenerated by doing the Create Browsing
Index on the console and 1 that I created by hand.

How many of those indexes were present before creating
the Browsing
index? The directory server will create many indexes by default. The
browsing index needs a special vlv index type. It also requires all of
the attributes that are sorted on to be indexed. But it should not
create 28 additional indexes.
