Yes and we will get there but my understanding is that it is still a ways off in the grand scheme of things..
Audrey is in prototype right now today, using such a facility. The ability to configure an image post-boot is DOA without it.
Separate from that, since we *know* we need the config server, in the not-too-distant future, and the config server solves the IP discovery problem, what's the benefit in building something else, just to throw it away?

Actually I was just looking through the code and AFAICT this is only supported for Xen based VMs, not KVM. It would be easy enough to add to condor though.. but then we are getting into needing a modified condor again. Perhaps this line of development would be useful to upstream though?
I would expect that it would be useful upstream. But whether or not that's the case, it's a pretty hard requirement for our usage of this stuff.
