North America: Last call for Fedora Ambassador Polos

Hi folks --
This is the last call for the first round of Fedora Ambassador polos.
Shipment is expected in the next few weeks, in plenty of time for fall
cons and the October FUDCon. Please e-mail me off list if you are
interested and want to order one with your snail mail address, quantity
and sizing.
Here is what we are ordering:
*Style Number:*D100 Devon & Jones Pima Pique Knit in French Blue
*Style Description:* 100% Peruvian Pima Cotton. Additional yarn in
collar and cuffs for a neater appearance and greater durability; stretch
tape in shoulders for extra strength; three-button placket, Dura-pearl™
buttons; rib-knit cuffs; grey heather is 90% cotton, 10% polyester.

The polos feature the official Fedora logo on the chest and sleeve.
Cost: $42.40 each including shipping for sizes up to XL; $3.00 extra for
2XL and up. For orders of two polos, the cost drops down to $69.00.
Payment is either via PayPal or you can send me a check drawn on a US
bank in US dollars.
Mexican Ambassadors should get in contact with Alejandro Acosta
<aacosta(a)fedoraproject.org>, as he will be coordinating finding a vendor
in Mexico.

FrOSCon budget and planning

FAMSCo has set aside a budget of about 600 Euros for FrOSCon. Note that
Max's travel costs and hotel to the event will *not* come out of this
budget.
This budget can be used for any costs associated with the show,
including swag, and also for subsidizing travel & accomodations for
Ambassadors.

Here are some of the questions that I would like to ask on the list:
1) Who has the posters and booth decorations from LinuxTag? How can we
get some of those things for FrOSCon?
2) Who would like to volunteer to get some stickers made? In
particular, I would like to see a good quality production of Nicu's
sticker kit, but I leave it up to the actual volunteer.

3) We have two XOs in EMEA. Who has them? We need to get one to Robert
Albrecht.
4) Max will work with local folks (probably Red Hat Germany) to get more
Live CDs made, and also Tshirts.

the event. Probably someone who speaks German. :)

CLA details

Hi Ambassadors,
I know that a lot of you are involved (either directly or indirectly)
with recruiting new contributors to Fedora. Please keep in mind the
following:
Whenever someone signs the Fedora CLA, they _MUST_ use their full legal
name. Not just their first name, not initials, not part of their name.
Obviously, I won't know if someone doesn't use their middle name (nor do
we care if they do or not), but I will notice and reject anything like
the following examples:
John Doe (obviously fake)
Mohammed (missing part of their name)
J Johnson (first name not complete)
Tim L. (not full name)
Super Awesome (come on)
bigjohnstevenson (please, use spaces)
Try to remind new contributors to be sure to be complete here. If they
somehow have a full name which meets my "reject" criteria, have them
contact me directly. Their username can be whatever they want, but we do
need their real name attached to the account for legal reasons.
Also, we need a valid mailing address and a phone number. It is not
sufficient to put "N/A", "Dont want to", or "123 Anywhere St", I will
reject those. If someone legitimately doesn't have a mailing address or
a telephone, feel free to contact me directly and we'll try to work
something out.

ETH-0: Hacking event in the Netherlands, July 5-11

This is a bit short notice, but I've just recently found out about a
hacking/computer art related event in the Northern part of the
Netherlands. It's an outdoor LAN Party with four themes:
Open Source Software
Embedded Systems
Media Arts and Computers
Computer Gaming

There's the possibility for a free day pass for any speakers, and they
are still looking for some. Otherwise, it should just be a fun event
all around. Max has also stated that there is some money in the
budget for the event, so if you have any ideas, or you are just plain
interested, send me a mail on or off list.
If you do plan on going, please let me know as soon as possible.
Since there is not much time left, this will take a bit of
coordination to pull of successfully. While we don't need to be as
professional looking as we were at LinuxTag, this is still a camping
trip, and I don't want to have to have any unfortunate emergencies
because something was not planned for in time.

Mirror bandwidth and user redirection

Tonight I deployed a slight update to MirrorManager that I'd been
wanting to do for a while. The basic selection algorithm for choosing
the order in which to return mirrors to clients remains the same:
prefer same netblocks, internet2 in same country if on internet2, same
country, same continent, then global, in that order. However, until
now, faster mirrors (those with larger bandwidths) were returned with
equal probability as slower mirrors. This means not enough traffic
was being sent to our gigabit-connected mirrors, and too much traffic
was being sent to our slower mirrors.
Each mirror's bandwidth value is now used as a weight. Mirrors with
larger bandwidth will have a a higher probability of being returned
earlier in the mirrorlist selection. Slower mirrors can still be
returned as the first mirrorlist selection because this is based on
probabilities, but should not be overwhelmed anymore.
For countries with fewer mirrors, such as India, where there's some
relatively fast mirrors, and several relatively slower mirrors, this
should mean that users will more often get directed to the faster
mirrors.
