The server images are not working with Fedora 31

Hi, Just wanted to point out that due to U-Boot not supporting XFS, and Fedora Server has moved to a XFS /boot, the current images as https://dl.fedoraproject.org/pub/fedora/linux/releases/31/Server/aarch64/im… does not boot on any system using U-Boot, like for example the raspberry pi. CMA on raspberry pi 4

Hi, I have looked into the CMA setting issue a bit. This is what I have found so far. The rpi4 needs CMA to be in ZONE_DMA (lower 1GB of memory) as this is the only area that the peripherals on the rpi4 can address. The DT sets the allowed range to allocate the CMA from ( arch/arm/boot/dts/bcm2711.dtsi#L869 <https://github.com/torvalds/linux/blob/master/arch/arm/boot/dts/bcm2711.dts…>), but it seems to not work here. What does work is instead to set the offset manually. I replaced "cma=256MB" with "cma=256M@704M" and then it boots. Note that it has to be 256M instead of 256MB. Removing the cma option on the command line was known as a workaround. Without that we would fall back to the build config of 64MB cma which was located at offset 0x38000000. This left 64MB at the end of ZONE_DMA, and I chose offset 704M so that those 64MB would still be free. Not sure if that is needed or not. The crashkernel needs to be in ZONE_DMA as well but it seems to be set to 0 size. I have tested on 5.7 rc2 from rawhide. This probably belongs in a bug report. What would be the correct place to file that? From what I can tell upstream has been tested with cma settings without problems (as long as the requested CMA size can fit in ZONE_DMA). From that it seems like fedora-specific issue. Not sure though. Cheers, Thomas

Workstation on Pinebook Pro

Hi ARM friends, I've been trying without success to get the F32 Workstation RC1.6 (tomorrow's release) installed on my Pinebook Pro. If anyone here has done it, do you have instructions written up somewhere? One layer of trouble I've had is that the image apparently doesn't have the uboot files. The arm-image-installer script looks for them, AFAICT, in the image, so I called the installer with the PREFIX set to '', which was enough to get the install script to work, but the PBP doesn't boot from the SD card. I also used the 'rock64' target, which seems like it should be the right answer and not 'pinebook' (since the Pinebook uses a different board from the Pinebook Pro). Hi, testing of daily images from https://dl.fedoraproject.org/pub/fedora-secondary/development/32/Workstatio… Raspberry Pi 4 defies the keyboard. I have been under the assumption that 5.6 has support built-in? Any ideas? Thanks, Thomas

Wandboard Quad RevD1 has no Ethernet in Fedora F31?

Hi, I just acquired a wandboard quad rev d1 (to replace an older dual-core model), but apparently even though there is a revd1 DTB tree, the ethernet still isn't working. According to http://forums.wandboard.org/viewtopic.php?t=1460 this issue should have been fixed a couple years ago. Is there something special I need to do to get fedora working on this board? Raspberry Pi GPIO libraries

Hi ARM team, I've been asked in a GitHub issue[1] if there is any work in progress (or if someone wants to take a look) for getting the GPIO libraries for Raspberry Pi working on Fedora. Someone subsequently posted a link to a BZ[2] where Peter said "the RPIO._GPIO module needs to be updated to work with the new kernel interfaces". Is that still the case? Upgrading Uboot is insufficient to migrate my F31 system from WB Dual-C1 to Quad-D1

Hi, All this talk about Wandboard Quad D1 is because I'm trying to upgrade an existing device currently running on a Wandboard Dual C1. It's a system that started as Fedora 25 and was upgraded to Fedora 31 (via dnf system-upgrade). It's been running fine on the Dual. If I used a fresh Fedora-Minimal-31 on the Quad-D1 (or the Dual-C1) it works fine. Currently the main difference, as far as I can see, is that there is a different kernel. The working system is running 5.3.7-301.fc31.armv7hl whereas the non-working is running 5.4.17-200.fc31.armv7hl. I am currently working on upgrading the Fedora-Minimal to a more recent kernel to try to reproduce the problem; if it doesn't reproduce I will also try to upgrade the existing system. Funny display on Raspberry Pi

I have a Raspberry Pi 3B running Fedora AAarch connected to my TV. After installed the latest version 31 updates, the display went weird on me. Monitor preferences list an "unknown" monitor with resolution 1824x984 and refresh rate 77 Hz, and colours are all wrong. What should be red or orange is blue, blue is red or brown, and I'm not really sure what everything else I see on the screen is supposed to look like, but the greens may be more or less right. Any idea what's going on? I'm using the MATE desktop. If I connect my CentOS 7 laptop to the same HDMI port using the same cable, everything seems just fine. - Toralf

No sound on Fedora 32 on RASPI4

Hello, Fedora 32 aarch64 with XFCE runs smoothly on my Raspi4. Everything is working fine except sound. I can't hear anything with my headphone plugged in . The pavumeter is working. I want to use this Raspberry for Multimedia streaming on TV. BTW: Sound via Bluetooth is working fine. Greeting Andreas

Boot AARCH64 PXE images on Raspberry Pi 3B+/4B

Hey ARM people, A while back I was working on netbooting Fedora 30 on the Raspberry Pi 3B+ and I eventually got it working by TFTP loading U-Boot first, then loading GRUB2 as the EFI executable and then having GRUB2 load vmlinuz and initrd.img to get the kickstart install going. The same sequence currently doesn't work on the RPI 4. I'm using a 4GB Rev 1.2 RPI4B: GRUB2 can't load vmlinuz or initrd.img over HTTP. Taking a tcpdump of the connection, there is a ton of un-acked as well as retried packets in the dump. Loading the images via TFTP works but when GRUB2 is loading them the whole system just freezes. No console output no DHCP discovers getting to my DHCP server, no nothing. So I started working towards removing GRUB2 and U-Boot from the process. I'm using the kernel + initrd from here: https://dl.fedoraproject.org/pub/fedora/linux/development/32/Everything/aar… Initially start4x.elf wasn't able to boot vmlinuz at all but then I decompressed the gzipped vmlinuz and the kernel started loading. The next issue was that the default initrd.img file seems to be too large for the RPI. When downloading, it's about 69MB in size but the kernel seems to only see ~64MB: [ 0.869951] Trying to unpack rootfs image as initramfs... fdisk -l on Fedora aarch64 ISO failed

Hi guys, I tried fdisk -l Fedora-Server-dvd-aarch64-28-1.1.iso It failed to list partition table information. but if change to x86 iso, like Fedora-Server-dvd-x86_64-28-1.1.iso. Fedora 32 on RPI4

Hello together, I've Fedora 32 (beta) updated from Rawhide. The only kernel that boots correct is: 5.6.0-0.rc2.git0.1.fc32.aarch64 every newer kernel didn't find the root (/) UUID. In particular, I'm interested in working on U-Boot to get it to boot Fedora aarch64 on a RockPro64. I have a Bachelor of Science in computer science, so I know how to code. I've used Java, Python, and C#. I'm looking for someone willing to be a sort of part-time mentor; i.e. they wouldn't have to hold my hand, but at least help me get started in setting up an ARM/U-Boot development environment and answering questions I would have about U-Boot. Building fedora-arm images

Hello, I'm part of a systems programming group at the University of Massachusetts Lowell. We're using Fedora and Raspberry Pis as part of an introductory IoT course. Right now we're using an install script to set up fedora-arm-minimal images (found here: https://dl.fedoraproject.org/pub/fedora-secondary/releases/31/Spins/aarch64…) We would really benefit from building our own Fedora 31 images for the RPi as that would reduce a lot of overhead for us when testing, as well as reducing overhead for the instructors and students when setting up RPis for the first time. We've tried image-factory, livemedia-creator, appliance-tools, oz... No luck with anything yet. We started this project in September 2019 and building custom images is the one thing we have made no progress on. I'm sure there is some known combination of scripts/programs, hardware, and operating system that was used to produce the Fedora-Minimal images we've been working from. Is there anyone on this list that has that information or knows where I could find it? Thank you, Fabrizio
