Hello together,
I've Fedora 32 (beta) updated from Rawhide. The only kernel that boots correct is: 5.6.0-0.rc2.git0.1.fc32.aarch64
every newer kernel didn't find the root (/) UUID. Even the actual kernel 5.6.0-300.fc32
[root@fedora-raspi4 ~]# lsblk -f NAME FSTYPE FSVER LABEL UUID FSAVAIL FSUSE% MOUNTPOINT sda └─sda1 ext4 1.0 a8c60ba4-ec9d-4636-b5a1-64b54c48235f 9,5G 28% /home mmcblk1 ├─mmcblk1p1 vfat FAT32 51BA-42E4 566,8M 5% /boot/efi ├─mmcblk1p2 ext4 1.0 4d93649c-d4f6-412a-b81a-ba4c61dabfb3 795,2M 12% /boot └─mmcblk1p3 ext4 1.0 1cec3baa-ef02-4e33-9b78-4a38efa491eb 19,5G 25% / zram0 [SWAP] [root@fedora-raspi4 ~]#
Are there any tips and tricks to boot with more up2date kernel?
Thanks
Andreas
Hi Andreas
I use fedora32 on my raspberry 4 and it works fine with the latest kernel.
Note that I only managed to get the Minimal build to boot. See the former threads on the boot getting stuck in dracut for workstation images. I just used Minimal and then installed all the things from Workstation from dnf. It boots fine and the 4GB model I use even runs gnome-shell surprisingly smoothly.

Hello Thomas
I think that I have taken the Fedora-Workstation-31-1.9.aarch64.raw.xz to install my Raspi4.
Do you mean the Fedora-Minimal-32_Beta-1.2.aarch64.raw.xz Image? I will try it with another SD-Card.
thanks

The minimal image should work OK (running it on two RPi4's). Desktop and server images are currently broken as others have mentioned.

Hi Paul,
From memory, it first hung for a long time before continuing and later it hung indefinitely (well, as long as my patience was). I will retry later and update the thread. I only have 1 rpi4 and it is in use as my private cloud, so i can not experiment at will.

Minimal -32-Beta works without any Problems, the latest Server Version does not work.
Would you please explain, what the difference between this two Version is that Minimal runs, Server not?

Hello Dirk
how did you you install Fedora-Minimal-32_Beta-1.2.aarch64.raw.xz on SD-Card?
Just xzcat Fedora-Minimal-32_Beta-1.2.aarch64.raw.xz | dd of=/dev/sdc status=progress bs=4M
didn't work for me. All I get is a dracut shell
Thanks

I haven't retried it yet, but I do have some extra info on my previous (and failed) attempt:
I used arm-image-installer as the tool. As it does not yet have a rpi4 target, I used the rpi3 value. It does boot, but, like I said, it hangs in a later stage. I will provide screenshots when I am able to test again.

Hi Peter,
Yeah, I currently run Buster on it. As soon as I can get to an RH based aarch distro, I jump.
Fedora 32 aarch is the one, I hope...

Just xzcat Fedora-Minimal-32_Beta-1.2.aarch64.raw.xz | dd
of=/dev/sdc status=progress bs=4M
didn't work for me. All I get is a dracut shell
Thanks

Hello Andreas,
yes, i installed the two Version yesterday on a 64 GB SD Card.
Image has been unpacked with all necessary tools.
For installation on the SD Card i use balenaEtcher. That Program
works fine here.

this should work with Linux 5.6. So i don't have an idea what's the problem here.
Rev 1.2 needs recent changes to sdhci-iproc and the devicetree.

I have the exact same model/revision (confirmed with /proc/cpuinfo when booting raspbian) and mine boots without problems.
These are the steps I did to get it to boot to gnome-shell:
Wrote Fedora-Minimal-32-20200328.n.0.aarch64.raw.xz (latest compose from koji at the time) with arm-image-installer to the sd. Resized partion. Booted and set up users etc.
Once booted I ran: # dnf update # dnf install fedora-release-workstation-32 --allowerasing # dnf group install workstation-product # dnf install bash-completion
and then after a reboot: # systemctl start graphical.target
This got me a gnome-shell (on llvmipe obviously, but it is usable)
Rev 1.2 needs recent changes to sdhci-iproc and the devicetree.

Hi,
OK, my issue was a "glitch in the matrix". I retried with another sd-card (Kingston 8GB) and it now just works! My use case is server only, so I will not test any desktop stuff.

I worked out how to get my pi4 working the 5.6.2-300.fc32.aarch64 kernel without a reinstall. The kernelopts line in grubenv in my install was kernelopts=root=UUID=72375f48-5ce5-49c8-b5df-88d8afcd2122 ro cma=192MB which worked with 5.6.0-0.rc2.git0.1.fc32.aarch64 but not any later kernels I tried. The newer images don't have the cma=192MB option and if I remove that (I used grub2-editenv but it might be better to remove the GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX="cma=192MB" line in /etc/defaults/grub and rebuild the grub files with grub2-mkconfig) then the pi4 boots successfully with 5.6.2-300.fc32.aarch64
