#474: Sidekick - some packages need co-maintainers -------------------------------------+------------------------------------- Reporter: | Owner: ribeiro | Status: new Type: | Keywords: New badge idea | Has a description: 0 Priority: | Artwork status: None minor | External requirements: Has a name: | Triaged (triagers only): 0 0 | Concept approved (reviewers only): | 0 | Badge definition status: | None | Manually awarded: | 0 | -------------------------------------+------------------------------------- Badge description: "You became a co-maintainer of a package with less than 3 co-maintainers or of a branch with a single commiter"
activities:
1) What are those activities? Becoming a co-maintainer of a package
2) Who is doing them? Packagers, usually the new packagers.
3) Why are they doing them? The idea is to facilitate the entrance and guidance of new packagers by following these guidelines https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Policy_for_encouraging_comaintainers_of_packa...
4) When do they do them? Whenever they want to get more involved into packaging without the need of packaging new software
5) How do they do them? For now, they would have to look for packages matching the criteria in pkgdb and convince the package admins to let them co-maintain the pkg. I am preparing an app to list those packages :)
Lastly, do you have any ideas for artwork concepts?
I believe 'sidekick' (as in a hero's sidekick, like Robin [batman]) is a good name for it. Maybe we could have 2 pandas, one with a cape and one with a mask or sth like that :)
I also believe we could have sidekick I, II and III for 1, 5 and 10 co- maintained packages. We want to keep those numbers low -> https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Policy_for_encouraging_comaintainers_of_packa...

Hey, I'm going to take this but I just want to know which category this would fall into so that I can make sure that my design fulfills the badge guidelines. Which of these should I categorize this badge in? -Content/Learning -Development -Community -Quality -Events -Misc. Thanks!

I love it :)
Do we need the number 1 on the first one if we have it as a series? maybe the first one could have the "pow!" and the others could display the numbers.

Hey @ribeiro, that sounds like a great idea to me! Here's what that would look like all together (series 1 (POW!)- series 10) Series 1 (POW): [[Image(sidekick_ticket #474_series1.png)]] Series 2: [[Image(sidekick_ticket #474_series2.png)]] Series 3: [[Image(sidekick_ticket #474_series3.png)]] Series 5: [[Image(sidekick_ticket #474_series5.png)]] Series 10: [[Image(sidekick_ticket #474_series10.png)]]

Comment (by riecatnor):
Great work to start! There are a few things off with the design.. The pandas are not really popping off the background. Its hard to see what is happening, maybe because there is so much going on. It could also be the dark of the background. I think simplifying it would be good. mleonova and I thought maybe something like this could be nice -> http://nick.mtvnimages.com/nick/games/images/henry-danger-quiz/henry- danger-quiz-4x3.jpg?quality=0.51&maxdimension=600
If you want to keep going with the current design, here are my thoughts. Take out the "action" lines, or make them a different color. Play around with the bg color, I believe the bg color for package related stuff is this one: https://badges.fedoraproject.org/badge/delivery though I'm not sure it will work well with your design. At least try and see :) Next, instead of a drop shadow style on the lettering, keep consistent with other lettering and use strokes. Try using a different color other than the blues for the lettering, so it will contrast a little more. Play around with the arm and paw of the panda and the left, its doing a weird thing right now :P Try out a version where the bg is the package bg, the pandas are the fedora blues and the capes and masks are black/grey.
Can't wait to see what you come up with :)

I am not sure exactly if we can consider this badge as a duplicate of ticket#66. Both are for becoming a co-maintainer of any package. I am not sure why should we matter to check a package is having less than 3 co- maintainers or less than 5/7/10 co-maintainers.

Hi, Mary! So we reviewed this one. It is sooo much better now, wow! We were now able to focus on the smaller elements. What do you say we bring in a bit of variety into badges series and make them all a tad different from one another? We shouldn't use any real superhero, but we for sure can use pandas in different colored capes and various superhero poses. You can just google superhero sidekick, and there will be a bunch of those!
This will be an awesome series!

I love your artwork, but I do not believe this badge is currently possible to implement. There is no way for fedmsg/fedbadges to know how many comaintainers a package currently has. Sorry.
