comps, kickstart and spin fixes/changes for F21 Cloud
by Ian McLeod
All,
At the last SIG meeting I agreed to have a go at fixing up the cloud
spin and the associated kickstarts. As I understand it, this means:
* Changes to comps - Specifically adding a group that carries the
necessary enabling packages that need to be in the cloud image
* Changes to the cloud kickstarts - To use the above comps groups,
rather than individual packages
* Changes to the spin/install file - To pull in the enabling packages
needed in the cloud image builds, so that the images can be built
successfully using the Cloud install tree
With the above in mind, here is my work so far (on github because they
do such a nice job of rendering diffs, and because I don't have commit
access to the Fedora repos):
* comps changes -
https://github.com/imcleod/comps-imcleod/compare/feature/cloud-updates
* kickstart and spin changes -
https://github.com/imcleod/spin-kickstarts/compare/feature/cloud-changes
Thoughts?
If these are acceptable, and given that the existing cloud tree is,
apparently, broken, can we push out the changes and then deal with any
follow on issues as they show up in the nightly builds?

[Base] Terminology for docker/atomic images
by Dusty Mabe
Hi All,
Per discussion in the #fedora-cloud meeting last Friday I would like to
start a thread about the names of the Docker and Atomic deliverables for F21.
I know of at least a few cases where there has been confusion regarding
what deliverable has been the subject of a conversation on IRC as a result
of the current terminology. I've seen the docker and atomic referred to as:
Docker Image
Atomic Image
Docker Host Image
etc...
It seems like the one that sparks the most confusion is "Docker Image".
Usually when I see "Image" I think a VM bootable image (i.e. virtualization,
not containers/Docker). A progression from that misunderstanding could lead
one to think that "Docker Image" is the VM disk image I can use to boot a
host that will run the Docker daemon and thus run containers.
I think it would be nice to help ourselves and our users along by separating
the terminology a bit such that it is hard to confuse what is a VM disk
image vs. what is an image for use with Docker.
Here is a first stab at trying to make things clearer:
Docker Container Image - base container image - can be used with docker
Atomic Image - minimal OS, Atomic updates, aka 'Docker Host'
In a nutshell, it would be great if we added "Container" to references we
make to the container image (in conversation and docs).
Thoughts?

do we need an "environment" in the comps group for cloud?
by Matthew Miller
In the IRC meeting today, we talked about some needed changes to the
comps file and spin kickstarts. Dennis mentioned that having an an
"environment" defined would allow people to manually select the cloud
packageset in Anaconda.
On thinking about this, I think we actually _don't_ want this -- if people
are building their own images, using a kickstart file and automated process
is really the right way, and on the other side, we don't want people
accidentally installing cloud-init on their laptops (possibly thinking that
the environment means remote cloud storage or calendaring/mail features or
something like that).

I gave some tentative answers, but let's get them answered definitively.
