Thanks for the reply.  I'm pretty sure this isn't related to escaped \$.  Anyone using HEAD for their implementation?

Most of the snippet issues I have ran into were related to #3.

Ensure all $'s are escaped (\$) or enclose the SNIPPET(..) directive with
#raw ie:

#raw
SNIPPET(...)
#end raw
