and https://wiki.ubuntu.com/CobblerSpec targetted for Ubuntu 9.10.
Have you worked on this any yet or do you plan on doing anything soon?
There are others on this list working on Ubuntu / Debian support for
cobbler. Perhaps you can work with them for the best experience for
cobbler possible.
Just thought I'd bridge the gap for you so we can get this work
upstream where it makes sense.

Maybe it would be worthy to have an update from
https://fedorahosted.org/cobbler/wiki/DebianDeployment.
Looking at the CobblerSpec page, at least the sections about design
and implementation are somewhat outdated. Is it now possible to manage
apt repositories (by mean of debmirror), and install media can be
imported (although only mini.iso images produce sensible results).
Although there is no ubuntu specific work yet, that could probably
improve the import of real media, the work for debian is basically
finished.
On the other side, I know there are efforts to build a debian package
for cobbler. I cannot give you a status detail, but I do believe that
it is al least partly functional.

It's not targeted for Ubuntu 9.10 per se. I've put it up as a suggestion
for 9.10, simply renaming the the spec I wrote more than a year ago to
say "karmic" now :) I would still love to find the time to work on
packaging cobbler, but the finity of time keeps getting in the way, I'm
afraid. Our developer's conference (Ubuntu Developer Summit) is coming
up in three weeks, and by then I hope to have a bit of an idea as to
whether I'll be able to find the time to do it for this relaese
cycle.

I've picked it up several times over the last year or so, but have never
reached anything that is even remotely releasable. The main problem is
the vastly different interpretations of FHS in Debian and Ubuntu
compared to the Cobbler developers' ditto.

I certainly will, if I find the time to work on Cobbler for this
release.

The work is going on without you, actually. There's a "debian"
branch
in the devel branch where folks
already have things going forward.

Specific examples of what you see and would like to change would be
useful here. We've talked
about having more configurable paths in settings before, which is not a
stretch or really even that
complicated of a patch.
