I am toying with the idea to write an addon for cobbler that will allow it to become an authorative source of servers in the same way as cobbler can/does provide a list of servers to a configuration management system like puppet. If you add a little bit of abstraction you could make it monitoring system agnostic. The idea is basically that for every server build or rebuild it will add/modify an entry in the monitoring system. Rather than this being something that is added in a custom script/snippet it could be more integrated. This is a very raw idea at present so just keen on thoughts or feel free to shoot it down if you think it is completely untenable.
