Design spin review
by Luya Tshimbalanga
Greetings,
I took over Design spin suite maintenance at the request of Sebastian.
I notice the suite has not been updated for a while and will be a good
time to review
the listed package below.
# gnome desktop
gdm
gnome-panel
gnome-session
gnome-shell
metacity
nautilus
# graphics
blender
(-) cinepaint (could it be dropped from default due to instability?)
fontforge
(?) fontmatrix (replacement by font-manager as default?)
gimp
gimp-*-plugin
GREYCstoration-gimp
hugin # is huge
inkscape
mypaint
nautilus-image-converter
optipng
(-) postr (can it be dropped from default spin since shotwell can export
in Flickr?)
(?) rawtherapee (replacement by darktable?)
scribus
shotwell
synfigstudio
ufraw
xournal
(+) simple-scan
# office
abiword
dia
evince
gnote
gnumeric
(+) # pdfmod (reenable it?)
# internet
empathy
evolution (keep it or replace it by Thunderbird?)
firefox
# audio & video
(+) audacity? (jokosher upstream is dead)
pitivi
rhythmbox
totem
+ cheese
# system
gedit
gnome-terminal
# gtk-recordmydesktop # dropped for space (#887991)
network-manager-applet
I would like to include fonts used for Fedora design especially
Comfortaa. Feedback welcome.

gnome-shell design bug!
by Marco Scannadinari
Hi, none of you know me - I just joined the mailing list. Everyone can
call me zheøffec (pronnounced "jeff").
I just reported a bug here
(https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=691578) , is there the right
place to report it? It's about the highlight over an application with
its corners not being round enough. Thanks ;)

Design spin review update
by Luya Tshimbalanga
Based on feedback, there is the list of packages pushed in master
repository (soon to be F19) aiming for 4GB max:
Legends:
------------
(#) - Commented
(-) - Removal
%packages
# gnome desktop
@GNOME Desktop Environment (includes shotwell, gedit, totem, rhythmbox...)
-aisleriot
-eog
-evolution-*
# graphics
blender
bluefish (tentative, maybe gedit fills the gap?)
cinepaint (leave it for now until Gimp support HDR pictures)
cmyktool (maybe adding a documentation of its usage)
darktable # replaces rawtherapee as default
entangle
fontforge
font-manager # replaces fontmatrix
gimp
gimp-*-plugin
GREYCstoration-gimp
hugin # Tentatively added
inkscape
mypaint
nautilus-image-converter
optipng
# pinta # is huge because it needs mono
# postr # dropped because shotwell support flickr upload
scribus
shared-color-profiles-extra (needed for cmyk conversion)
synfigstudio
# ufraw # dropped as duplicate of darktable
xournal
# office
(I am considering LibreOffice Suite package)
abiword
dia
gnote
gnumeric
pdfmod # reenabled
# internet
filezilla
firefox
thunderbird
# audio & video
audacity
pitivi
# system
# gtk-recordmydesktop # dropped for space (#887991)
# network-manager-applet #part of Gnome Desktop
# fonts
aajohan-comfortaa-fonts
google-droid-sans-s*-fonts
%end
I am thinking about "design suite lite" for designers having lower
hardware spec. It could use a lightweight DE. Sugar spin does provide
similiar result when switching to Gnome mode (fallback). Comments welcome.

Hello!
These are my points of view:
- Drop Cinepaint. But I have to ask, there's some sort of replacement
for it?
I think Blender can do something similar as far as I know
- Yes, replace Fontmatrix with Font-manager.
- Drop Postr.
- I don't know both programs enough but I would say yes, replace
Rawtherapee with Darktable.
Darktable looks more modern.
- What is "hugin"? You say is huge but I don't know what it is.
hugin can be used to stitch multiple images together. The resulting image
can span 360 degrees. Another common use is the creation of very high
resolution pictures by combining multiple images. It uses the Panorama
Tools as back-end to create high quality images. I never used it myself.
- Re-enable pdfmod.
- Don't replace Evolution please!!!
- Audacity is better than Jokosher. Put it.
- I agree with including fonts.
Now, a suggestion: Why Gnome Shell as desktop? Why not other?
Gnome is always the default desktop environment in Fedora.

Future of Design Suite Spin
by Sebastian Dziallas
Hi, all.
As I said in this bug [0], I haven't been spending much time in Fedora
over the past year. As it turns out, my name was still in the design
suite kickstart file though.
I won't have the cycles to carry the spin forward, so I'm wondering
whether there's somebody who's willing to pick this up for the time
being. If nobody is willing to do that, it may make sense to not release
this spin in the future.
Thoughts?

Fedora ARM T-shirt for FUDCon Lawrence
by Paul Whalen
Good day all,
The Fedora ARM team would like to have T-shirts made for FUDCon Lawrence and could use a little
help making it happen in time for the conference.
We have a relatively simple design in mind which includes the Fedora logo on the front with
"Fedora ARM' written below and the 'ARM Connected Community' logo appearing perhaps on the back.
We have permission to use the ARM logo but will need to send the design to them for approval.
There are also some guidelines for the logo usage which include not deforming or altering/adding
text.
We're certainly open to more creative suggestions. Would anyone be interested in
working with us to create a T-shirt design? Any input is appreciated.
Thanks,
Paul
