Hey Ramya! So if you check out the ticket at https://pagure.io/design/issue/704 - there's links to the Discourse theming guides and even a test system test out themes.I think a first big step would be to get the header design from the ticket working in a discourse theme. Seem doable? Also Ben from another thread here is interested in this task as well so maybe you can work together?~mSent from my Galaxy -------- Original message --------From: Ramya Parimi rlp.parimi@gmail.com Date: 11/25/20 4:56 PM (GMT-05:00) To: Fedora Design Team design-team@lists.fedoraproject.org Subject: [Design-team] Re: New Contributor Hello Mairin,Thank you for getting back to me so quickly. Welcome to the team! What do you think about developing a theme for our Discourse at discussions.fedoraproject.org? I have a mockup I've been working on but we need help implementing it. Let me know if you are interested.
Thank you for the information. I will take a look at the issue and get comfortable with understanding the theme/design.
Yep, I am looking forward to working with Ben.
Also, could you let me know if there is a matrix or telegram bridge that I can join?
Thanks Ramya On Wed, Nov 25, 2020 at 4:12 PM Máirín Duffy duffy@redhat.com wrote:

Would a sandbox Discourse website for testing be helpful? The folks at Discourse have a generous free hosting option for Open Source projects. We could support 10-50 people there and give people admin rights to add and update themes independently.
I would be happy to get that set up and pass admin rights over to folks who want to update themes. I may be able to import a backup of discussions.fp.o to add "real" posts when testing out changes.
Let me know if that is useful!
Hey Justin,
Thanks for the idea - it seems there is a public sandbox setup already at meta.discourse.org - we'll see if that works out or not.
We did identify some usability issues with the core discourse UI I am not sure are addressable with a reskin. Not sure if a writeup of those is helpful upstream (they may be well aware.) The biggest issue is the combo search/drop down/breadcrumb selector thing.

No problem. If you think this would be useful at some point, let me know and I am happy to help facilitate.

I would read that write-up. :) Upstream may be aware but I also think there are few examples of Open Source projects as old as and as well-established as Fedora moving to Discourse. I imagine our successes and struggles with Discourse would interest others.

Ubuntu has been using it for a quite a while: https://discourse.ubuntu.com/
And there is https://discourse.gnome.org/ but it's not very active at all.
Mozilla: https://discourse.mozilla.org/
And, not a specific project, but there's a quite active forum for open source photography and free software at https://discuss.pixls.us/
