gtk print dialog and OOo

We've supported a gtk print dialog integration in OOo for a while, but
there has always been a few little gotchas, and now that the "built-in"
OOo dialog has some nifty extras there are extra gotchas. So I'll be
reverting to the "built-in" dialog for F11, a quick dump of the gotchas
are..
*) Need an extra "Selection" option for printing.

OOo can print just the selected text, selected graphic or selected
cells, but no way to show that in the gtk print dialog.
*) Way to specify the page size and orientation (esp. when using n-up
printing)

Most OpenOffice.org applications have per-page orientations rather than
global per print-job orientation, but when printing multiple pages in
one sheet of paper through cups, its desirable to have a way to specify
the orientation and page size of the combined sheet. We could do this
with a custom tab, but see next entry
*) Emit a signal when a printer is selected.

So e.g. a custom tab that should only exist for say, printing to a cups
backend, or using save as .pdf file can be shown/hidden depending on the
printer selection, e.g. pdf encryption options or pdf "read-only except
for filling in fields" directives which only make sense in a save
as .pdf context. Hackable around with nasty switch-page callback on the
notebook widget if you rummage around horrifically through the dialog
hierarchy looking for it.
*) Spreadsheet printing
No "All Sheets", "Selected Sheets" in addition to the pages options for
spreadsheets that may have multiple sheets each of which can span
multiple pages. "Page 1 of 2 sheets selected out of 3 sheets in total".
Could do a gnumeric and do this in a custom tab though
*) Presentation printing
Want to select notes, or outline, or handouts. Could do this in a custom
tab though.

PolicyKit changes in F12

Just a heads-up:
We hope to land a new PolicyKit version (which will turn into 1.0,
eventually) in F12 soon. The new version simplifies the API and will
require PolicyKit-using application to be ported. For more information,
have a look at the feature page:

It also has pointers to api docs and a (terse) porting guide. We already
have a collection of patches for quite a few PolicyKit-using apps, so
the transitions should be relatively painless.

No, there is no regression here. As I tried to explain in the reply to
Veillard:
1. In libvirtd, simply check for authorization by speaking to the
polkitd-1 using either the D-Bus API (via e.g. libdbus-1 which
handles OOM) or a through helper.
2. virt-manager will not have to know _anything_ about PolicyKit
And if either polkitd-1 or the helper aborts() due to OOM, then you will
get a D-Bus error back (or if using a helper, WIFEXITED(status) != 0)
and you can check the authorization again - this works because the bus
daemon (which handles OOM) will then reactivate polkitd-1.

Desktop background Idea for F12 feature..

There was pointed out to the art list [1] MS plans for personalization [2].
It would be good to get some developers input on idea I had.
Is it possible to add an feature to "gnome-appearance-properties" in
"backgrounds"
A) Browse online "gallery(s)"
( Each distro and upstream DE can have it's own gallery to present to
its end users )
B) Preview selected image(s) to the end user
C) Set that image as the end user background
E) Add the ability so that each user can have his own background
( User A has background image A, User B background image B etc )
D) Save the background in user home folder
By having an online background browser it save the bandwith footprint
and disk space
usage and the work related to package "selected" background images.

Gnote 0.3.0 - includes applet and more plugins

Hi,
Just a quick heads up. I am now building gnote 0.3.0 for Fedora 11 and
Fedora 10. There has been a number of important change my last mail
about gnote to this list. It now includes several plugins, ability to
spell check notes and most importantly, a GNOME applet.
I believe the only major feature left that was discussed here is the
ability to import Tomboy notes on first start which is the next item on
the developer's list along with sync abilities. Gnote is on a weekly
release schedule now (every wed) so I am sure we will be getting good
updates soon. I will keep you folks informed as we move forward.

nautilus-gdu for Fedora 10?

him to nautilus-gdu instead but it has not been built for Fedora 10.
