Ready to support
by joseph reni
My name is Joseph Reni, I am a research psychologist by trade (I am a
civilian scientist for NAWCTSD) , I work specifically in interface
design research. Most of my experience is in setting up and deploying
user analyses research through surveys and interactive assessments. I
love prototyping and the interface development workflow. I am also a
masters student at Iowa state University. I am excited to start
working with Fedora usability and design. I would love it if someone
seasoned within this community could give me a call to help get off to
a running start, direct email would also be fine. I am hoping to find
my niche within a Fedora community and start being a valued
contributor.
Thanks.

GTK+2 Adwaita-y theme
by Adam Williamson
Hey, folks. So I recall it was mentioned before that the reason there
isn't a real Adwaita for GTK+ 2 is simply that no-one got around to
doing it yet. There's a thread on the -devel list which linked to a
thread in the Ubuntu forums where some people have apparently been doing
this off their own bat:
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1764856
the -devel list poster recommended the version done by ceramicm, which
can be found on page 3:
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1764856&page=3
I don't know if this work is clean enough to be upstreamable, but if so,
maybe we could contact ceramicm to try and get the work integrated?
(Note I haven't actually tested / looked at this theme yet, I just
thought it would be a good idea to pass it along to a relevant list.)

Disabling effects per display
by Jóhann B. Guðmundsson
Is there a way to disable the effects which happens when pressing the
windows button or when clicking per display connected to the computer?
If you need a use case where this is turning out to be terrible sit down
in your living room with your partner hook your laptop to your tv via
hdmi start playing the latest episode of your partner favourite show.
Notice that pressing the window button on the keyboard or moving the
mouse to "Activities" will produce a sound from you partner at the same
time that will distracts you from the work you a trying to get done on
the laptop at the same time....

Fedora 15 Final RC3 available: desktop testing needed!
by Adam Williamson
Hey, everyone. So the third release candidate for the final Fedora 15
release is now up, and this time we have live images, that work! I'm so
excited. (For RC1 and RC2 we had a couple of bugs which stopped some of
the live images from composing, and stopped those that *did* compose
from actually booting).
So as always, we need some desktop validation testing!
You can find the images at
http://serverbeach1.fedoraproject.org/pub/alt/stage/15.RC3/Live/ . The
desktop test instructions/results page is:
https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Test_Results:Fedora_15_Final_RC3_Desktop
Grab an image, go to that page, click on the 'test case' links, do the
tests, and enter your results in the 'Test Matrix' table. I'm afraid
there is no 'profit' step, except the warm fuzzy feeling you get when
contributing to a new Fedora release. We need to do all the tests for
the 'desktop', 'fallback' (GNOME 3 fallback mode), and 'KDE' columns at
least, and it'd be good to get the tests done for the other desktops too
so we know where they stand. If you hit any bugs which are complete
fails for any of the tests, please file them at
http://bugzilla.redhat.com and mark them as blocking the bug
'F15Blocker' (or if you don't have the privileges to do so, poke me and
I'll do it). Thanks! If you have any questions, do go ahead and ask.

user dirs in f16
by Matthias Clasen
Since gnome3 does no longer show the desktop folder contents on the
desktop, having 'Desktop' show up in the file chooser is confusing, at
best. Thankfully, GTK+ already hides it if it is the same as HOME. So,
for F16 I plan to change the default xdg-user-dirs configuration to set
Desktop=HOME. Existing users will not be affected by this change.
