User mountable ISO images
by Gérard Milmeister
Would it be possible to make .iso images user mountable?
At the moment one has to login as root to do
"mount image.iso /mnt/image -o loop"
It would be nice to right click (non-root) on a image.iso file in
nautilus, select "Mount disk image", then a mount point for the image
would be created, the image mounted, and an icon would appear in the
nautilus "Computer" object.

no compat-libstdc++ in development?
by Jack Howarth
I noticed that while FC2 contains a copy of compat-libstdc++
(7.4.2-2.96.126) that the current development RPMS are missing this.
Is this change slated for FC3 and RHEL 4? I still have legacy binaries
here that require compat-libstdc++ making this change most unwanted.

FIX (sort of): install setup screen freezes

The fix!!!! use the text mode installer, not the X-gui.
No freezing, installed fedora 2.
Rebooted machine after install.
First thing it does is puts you into a X-gui based set of windows
requiring that you add a user, etc. There is NO way to do this
in text-mode. It also starts you at run-level 5.
So now the system freezes having spent 1 hour installing it, thinking
I was cleaver because I avoided using the X-gui based install setup
screens only to find that the first boot puts one right back into
the X-gui setup system and it freezes.
Curiously, if I then turn off the machine a try again (having no
completed the initial boot setup), it starts but hangs after
printing the message:
Enable Swap space
If the turn off the machine and try again, it puts me into the X-gui
setup system, and so on; each reboot alternates between the X-gui
setup that freezes and the system hanging after printing the swap message.
So, I can install fedora 2, I just can not get past the first reboot.
My solution, re-install redhat 9.

smbclient linux fc1 files > 2GByte Prolem?
by Jörn Rink
Hi,
on my internet router i have install the latest samba server from fc1.
I share 2 directories in my network.
When i connect with Windows XP, i can copy files greater 2 GByte to the
network mountet smb directory.
When i use the latest fc1 smbclient, it is not possible for me to copy
the same file to this directory.
Has the smbclient on linux a 2GByte boundary?

fix for dual boot CHS not working
by Patrice Dumas
Hi,
I have tried the solution posted on that mailing list to recover dual booting
with windows 2000 and it doesn't work. The computer is a Toshiba Portégé
3480CT. Windows 2000 is on the first partition, in a FAT32. I first used a self
compiled parted to shrink the fat, the partition table was modified and
windows 2000 was unbootable. Then I installed fedora core 2. The partition
table was remodified. I can do anything on that computer there is nothing
valuable on it. The fedora core 2 is up to date.
The windows friendly CHS is 2432,255,63.
Booting without hda=2432,255,63, I have:
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
[root@sissine root]# fdisk -l

sfdisk: I don't like these partitions - nothing changed.

Reboot your system now, before using mkfs
If you created or changed a DOS partition, /dev/foo7, say, then use dd(1)
to zero the first 512 bytes: dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/foo7 bs=512 count=1
(See fdisk(8).)

Still no boot of windows, nothing changed.
Any idea where the trouble is? I can give more informations, make some tests.
