Kernel Stack Sizes
by Steve Brenneis
I searched the archives of the list for discussion on this topic and
couldn't find anything. Can anyone tell me why the Fedora 2.6 kernels
are configured for 4K stacks? This breaks a wide variety of device
drivers including the bundled firewire driver, linuxant Broadcom driver
loader, and the nVidia graphics driver.
Is there a plan to correct this? Should I file a bug?

libdigidoc & gdigidoc
by Veiko Sinivee
Hi folks,
I'd like to contribute some code to Fedora Core. I have developed
both libdigidoc (C library for handling digitally signed
xml documents conforming to ETSI (ETSI TS 903101)) standard
and gdigidoc (a C++ GUI application using GTKmm and libdigidoc
that provides a graphical user interface to this library). Now
I'd like to propose you to include these products in Fedoras
next release. Please vist the project site at
http://www.sourceforge.net/projects/gdigidoc. All the RPM-s there have
been built on FC2 so it might work on your system. You must have
openssl >= 0.97 and GTKmm 2.2.x (not yet the 2.4.x release but I'll
fix that soon). In this site you'll find also FC2 RPM-s for
pcsc-lite-1.2.0 smartcard daemon and opensc-0.8.1. This is not my
code but my application depends on it and I created RPM-s for it.
I intend to create some RPM-s for some smart-card reader devices
as well.
regards,
Veiko Sinivee

870 updates later...
by Brian Millett
Wow! I'm impressed. There were a few issues yumming the massive updates:
1) For some reason, my .ICEauthority file was chowned to root:root.
Changed that bask and X11 started.
2) For my dhcp setup, had to fix the /sbin/dhclient-script to allow routing.
3) php4.3.7 needed to be reconfigured and compiled due to looking/needing
libintl.so.3.
Other than that, wow, just fantastic.
As right now, for me, just evolution dependencies
Package evolution needs libsoup-2.0.so.0, this is not available.
Package evolution needs libgtkhtml-3.0.so.4, this is not available.
Package evolution needs libgal-2.0.so.6, this is not available.
Package evolution needs libgal-a11y-2.0.so.6, this is not available.
Great Job !!

Bad dependencies (ethereal-gnome, sane-frontends)
by John Thacker
Several packages have recently switched from using gtk1 to gtk2, generally
a Good Thing. However, many of these packages are older and explicitly
include Require lines in their spec files for gtk+, rather than relying
on rpmbuild automatically picking up the dependencies. This means that
we have some packages that require gtk1 when they shouldn't.
ethereal-gnome - Bug #120896 enabled gtk2 as of version 0.10.3-2, but
package still Requires: gtk+>=1.2. Present in FC2 and development
sane-frontends - Development now has 1.0.12, which automatically compiles
against gtk2 instead of gtk1. But, spec file Requires: gtk+ >= 0.99.13.
Also, incidentally, sane-frontends seems to explicitly Require gimp >= 1.1.25,
which I don't think is necessary either, especially since xscanimage isn't
shipped in the package favor of Xsane. (If we did ship xscanimage, it
would now build against and require gimp2 anyway.) Problem only in
development.
On a side note, grip needs to be updated in development from 3.0.7 to
the new stable 3.2.0, which uses gtk2 and GNOME2, eliminating yet another
gtk1 application. It's been out since April 15th or thereabouts.

Fedora.us sync with devel
by Ivan Gyurdiev
Why is there no repository for the fedora.us packages that's in sync
with fedora development? I've noticed fedora-devel packages tend to
update in batches in order not to break dependencies. It becomes a pain
to make fedora devel work with fedora.us packages against the last
release. Isn't the idea to merge the two anyway? When will that happen?

video in the desktop
by Thomas Vander Stichele
With Theora having reached a bitstream-frozen status, and a beta1
release imminent, what are people's thoughts on the Fedora site about
video applications in the desktop release ?
This is the first time a royalty-free video codec is in a releasable and
supportable state. Also, the GStreamer+totem stack should be a
shippable solution supporting Theora very soon now. I'd love for it to
be included in the base Fedora desktop, together with a few applications
like the upcoming gst-recorder so that people can finally record and
play video out of the box (even though not yet all formats, at least
from a legal perspective).
Also, for the fedora.us people - what should we do when wanting to
provide theora to pre-FC2 ? Theora requires a 1.1 version of ogg - does
that mean that everything we build for FC1 and older that wants to use
theora has to go in patches ?
Thanks,
Thomas
