I have filed:
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=126326
This is a bear of a package to build and include all the extra printers
it supports. Updating this is not a trivial job, even with the new auto*
stuff used to build GS.
GPL GS 8.02 is expected to have CUPS integration of some sorts, but I
would not expect it soon.
T. Waugh might not talk to me in IRC anymore ;)

how to override kernel modules?
by Fernando Lopez-Lezcano
>From what I have read in the list, FC >= 1 has a /lib/modules/`uname
-r`/updates directory where kernel modules could be dropped to override
modules that are included in the standard kernel.
Apparently that is not happening. The kernel modules in the "updates"
directory are always showing up in modules.dep _after_ the kernel
modules in the main tree.
Anything I need to do to change this?

Self-Introduction: Neil Horman
by Neil Horman
Hey all!
My Name is Neil Horman and I'm interested in getting more involved in
the open source community. I've read the self introduction guide on
fedora.redhat.com and am please to introduce...me :)
Name:
Neil Horman
Location:
Raleigh, North Carolina
Profession:
Software Engineer
Employer:
Red Hat
My Goals For Fedora:
As far as the Fedora project as a whole goes, I'd like to see it move
into a role that makes it the best Linux development platform in the
world (i.e. the bleeding edge of application and kernel development).
I'd like to see it have the most comprehensive package list of any
distribution available, with documentation that accurately details the
development state and stability of each package.
Personally, I'd like to start using Fedora to build my experience in
package development and maintenence. In a former life I developed linux
device drivers, and one day I would like to return to that, but before I
do, I'd really like to get more involved in the community development
process, so that if/when I take on more/other development roles, I have
a good understanding of how the development/qa/release process works.
Historical Qualifications:
My previous emplyoment was largely closed source, so I was afforded
little opporunity to participate without making people (bosses) nervous.
However, in my personal time, I've manged to participate by submitting
feature and bug fix patches to several projects, including ddd,
ethereal, cscope, and a few (internally at Red Hat) for the kernel. In
my last job, I developed device drivers for network switches that ran
embedded linux, so I have a strong interest in NIC driver development as
well. I've also tried to be active in comp.os.linux.development.*
newsgroups. I should have a number of entries in the archives... :)

I think thats about it. I'll be posting my cscope rpm up here, as soon
as I think its up to snuff (shouldn't be too long). Thanks for your
time, and I'm looking forward to getting more involved.
Neil

new kernel naming convention?
by Brian Millett
After yuming the current bleed from http://people.redhat.com/arjanv/2.6, I
noticed a new version convention.
kernel-doc-2.6.7-1.437ɤ
kernel-2.6.7-1.437ɤ
kernel-sourcecode-2.6.7-1.437ɤ
Is this OK?
thanks, just currious.

A little googling turned up this technical explanation:
<http://lwn.net/Articles/84583/>
I'm unclear why the pages need to be physically contiguous, though. Is this
a limitation in the x86 architecture?
I'm also curious if there are any good static analysis tools that can be
run against the kernel source to compute worst-case stack depth? Surely
someone in the gcc group has come up with such a critter?

ForteMedia FM801 alsa module missing from FC2 kernel
by Arnaud Abélard
Hello,
Is there any special reason why the ForteMedia FM801 alsa module isn't
compiled in the FC2 kernel?
Not that a lot of ppl have that kind of card, but at least some do ;-)

Get ready to watch this happen in the M$ world. XP service pack 2 is due to
break
a lot of things because of the security patches (which is just about all of
the
service pack =P)
