FreeNX SRPMs
by Felipe Alfaro Solana
Hello,
I have some custom SRPMs packages for FreeNX, updated to the latest
sources from nomachine.com, and built for Rawhide. They support PAM
authentication and don't require a separate user database. Also,
resuming of suspended sessions works fine, and suspended sessions don't
get frozen.
Is anyone interesed in them?
Thanks.

Hello Alan,
your output comes from "--strict" where a bit more content is checked
from rpm packages. Are e.g. vendor fields setup correctly. Tag 1147 has been
information on what SELinux filecontexts should be given to included files.
We don't include that anymore within binary rpm packages, but keep that
in the selinux-policy-* packages.
If you want to check your rpm packages about included content and good
packaging rules, "rpmlint" has way more checks for this and is a very
nice tool (http://people.redhat.com/laroche/ also contains output data
from rpmlint, too).

Firefox, x86_64, unacceptable memory use
by James Sylvester
I am sure that the primary browser for the developing Fedora Core 4
edition is not high on your priority list. However, if Fedora Core 4
is released with a memory devouring browser, as the current Fedora
Core 4 Firefox is, then the complaints from users, reviewers, and
administrators will be a strong reminder that libraries and
applications have significant importance to all users of the OS.

checking binary rpm packages
by Florian La Roche
Here is a start to check binary rpm packages for consistency:
http://people.redhat.com/laroche/pyrpm/
Right now mostly the rpm header is checked to get a feeling
how much "strange" binary rpm packages might be out there.
It has two modes of checking, one for the current Fedora Development
tree with more strict checks and a more relaxed one that should
work for all existing rpm packages, also other distributions.
I'd be interested to get feedback on what output is generated
for rpm addon expositories and non - Red Hat distributions
if the script generates warning messages.
At least for Fedora Core only very few rpm tags are actually
used in the rpm header.
Examples usage:
./pyrpm.py --strict /mirror/fedora/development/i386/Fedora/RPMS/*.rpm
Checking all rpms:
locate .rpm | xargs ./pyrpm.py
find /mirror/linux -name "*.rpm" -type f -print0 2>/dev/null |
xargs -0 ./pyrpm.py

Sample initscript/standard
by Reuben Farrelly
Hi,
I'm trying to fix up a rather messy looking boot sequence in -devel. Some
are just noisy packages such as dhcpd that I'll be filing bugs against in
bugzilla soon and others just do silly things like print [OK] or do
newlines twice, but others are external packages such as amavisd-new which
need to be fixed outside of the distribution.
Is there a sample skeleton /etc/init.d/ script anywhere which I can regard
as an 'authoritative' script to base work on, and fix up other non-Fedora
initscripts from? I had a feeling there was one in
/usr/share/doc/initscripts-*/ but seems not...
Is there in fact a standard way of writing an initscript file? By looking
at some in the init.d directory, it seems like there are a few different
'standards' :(
Thanks,
Reuben
