Dovecot 1.0
by Willem Riede
Can we have dovecot 1.0 alpha4 in FC5? Even though the word alpha is present
in the version, it is quite stable, and fixes many problems that there are in
0.99.14. As a matter of fact, there is no upstream support for 0.99.x. Any
reports are met with 'please upgrade and your problem will likely be over'.
Take bugs 163550 and 173928 - you can probably just close them after this move
:-)
I built my own rpm for alpha4, and have it working quite well on FC5test1.
Thanks, Willem Riede.

More mass rebuilds for GCC
by Jesse Keating
As you'll notice, there will be lots more packages bumped for the rebase
to gcc. Most completed today, but we'll be working through a list of
failures over the next couple days. Things will still be in a bit of
flux, but we're working on it.
Java is still being worked on too. Getting the java stack built with
gcj is a great accomplishment and I really respect our java and gcj team
for putting in the work to further the free java. Please bare with us
as we finalize the development changes necessary to accomplish this
task.

bittorrent in core? what frontend?
by Alexander Larsson
At some point in time we in the desktop group discussed shipping
bittorrent and a nice frontend in fedora core. Since more and more
people start to use this as a standard way of distributing software
(e.g. fedora core itself uses this) it really should be supported in a
default desktop install, so that when you click on a torrent file in the
browser something "nice" happens.
What are peoples opinions on this?
Another question is what frontend to use as a default. bittorrent itself
ships with a wxPython based frontend (bittorrent-gui, availible with
bittorrent in fedora extras). Another frontend is gnome-bt
(http://gnome-bt.sourceforge.net/) which is designed more like a simple
*.torrent mime handler rather than a full bittorrent app. Ubuntu
defaults to this i think.
I packaged gnome-bt at:
http://people.redhat.com/alexl/files/gnome-bt-0.0.22-1.noarch.rpm
http://people.redhat.com/alexl/files/gnome-bt-0.0.22-1.src.rpm
I don't use bittorrent all that much. What do people think about these
two frontends? Are there other interesting ones?

system-config-sshd ?
by Arthur Pemberton
Hello,
I have been a Fedora user since FC1, and now I'd like to contribute to
the project. I know some Python, but no GUI (as yet). My more tested
programming skills lie is pascal and delphi. I am interested in building
a cnfiguration tool for sshd to help me learn the python language
better, and also to contribute to the fedora project. But I need some help:
Knowledge - HOWTOs, tutorial, whitepapers, etc that I need to read to
properly write a system-config applicat ion
Rules - Standards, and guidelines that I shoudl follow
Technologies - gui toolkits, modules, etc that I should stick to in
learning and building a system-config tool.
Thanks for your assistance and time.
PS: the fedora-config-list is dead, so I'm reposting here

Using yum to Update to Development
by Andrew Stephen
Hi
I am trying to use yum to update one of my FC4 boxes to latest set of development packages. However it fails on a number of dependencies and I can't seem get around them even by installing them manually. Is there any documentation outlining the steps on upgrade from FC4 to the development packages. libssl.so.5 and libcrypto.so.5 seems causing most of the problems.
--> Running transaction check
--> Processing Dependency: libssl.so.5 for package: proftpd
--> Processing Dependency: libcrypto.so.5 for package: proftpd
--> Finished Dependency Resolution
Error: Missing Dependency: libssl.so.5 is needed by package proftpd

ATrpms and FC5/RHEL5
by Axel Thimm
So, is there interest to have ATrpms for FC5 less overlapping with
core packages?
If so, is there any redhat.com folk that would be willing to add
versioned obsoletes/provides to core specfiles? That's neccessary to
ensure upgradability.

Palm sync status?
by David
Hi,
I just bought a Treo 650 and was looking for info about how to use it with
FC4 when I found a posting which says FC4 is "completely broken with respect
to Palm syncronization". Is this supposed to be addressed in FC5, or should
I "downgrade" to FC3? Has anybody synced a Treo with Evolution in
FC5-test1? I asked this message on fedora-list and somebody responded
saying that there was a discussion on this list. But I haven't been able to
find anything definitive that says whether FC5 is supposed to fix the FC4
syncing problems. Does anyone know? Will I be able to sync a Treo 650 with
evolution?
Thanks...
David
