Logged out from X during yum update

I am installing FC-6 onto a brand new server (HP ProLiant ML 350 G5); my usual PXE+HTTP installation went just fine. However, during the first update, I was logged out from X and returned to the gdm screen. The last package I can see in /var/log/yum.log is selinux-policy-targeted.noarch 2.4.5-3.fc6 Now "yum update" fails becuase python-devel confilcts with python < 2.4.4-1.fc6, but I am able to fix this by "yum remove python-2.4.4" before doing the new "yum update". Please also note this happened twice, the former being when I installed the i386 arch while waiting the download of the X86_64 DVD. Does anyone else saw this?

Hi No i'm not talking about a Nvidia or flash. in my case, my only option for internet acces is wi-fi 802.11 how am I suppose to get madwifi or ndiswrap?? and what would you call the "clean Fedora" after installing this drivers to get my wifi 802.11 to work? and the same goes for winmodems. plus everybody installs all this Dirty softwar, what i'm asking is just to make it easyer to get it and install it, like an extra cd with all the warnings. I understand your crusade and applaud your determination that is very nobel from your side, but please have mercy on the user --------------------------------- Everyone is raving about the all-new Yahoo! Yum Question

I want to configure yum to only retrieve kernels from a particular repository--and none other--because I want to insure my installed kernels always provide a certain module not provided by Fedora itself. Reading the yum.conf man page suggests to me that putting: kernelpkgnames=kernel-*spk in the relevant [repo-name].repo file/stanza might accomplish this. However, the man page also says, "This is really only here for the updating of kernel packages and should be removed out in the yum 2.1 series." -- Is this correct? Is there some other way to insure kernels only come from a particular repo? Thanks in advance for all suggestions. on the Easy Fedora 2 issue

There are two packges that are planned for Fedora, Im sure you have heard by now, pungi and pilgrim. These two will allow you to re-spin the Fedora install cds into another install cd(s), in the case of pungi or a live cd, in the case of pilgrim. From what I understand if you are simply using packages from the default fedora repos, you CAN keep the fedora logo. IF you are adding non-free packages or even free packages that are NOT from the default Fedora repos, then you must rebrand. I suspect these tools will help you do this re-branding, though I am not sure (it would be a good idea anyways, since it keeps people from have the excuse that they didn't know how to rebrand the distro). In this way you can build your on distro, with minimal fuss. Simply grab the neccessary packages from their appropriate repos(or build them) and then build the cd. you can then give that cd to your "new-to-linux" friends. You can then call in easy linux or something, and brand it really quick with something of your choosing. This way your friend doesn't have to worry about things "not-working", you don't have to be a "slave to his desktop" and nobody can say that fedora violated it's own principals. Alternatively, you can give him the default fedora cds with the fedorafrog script which will add all the non-free stuff he would need. I hope this helps ~Ahmed

no portmap, nfs, ypbind after rawhide update

I just updated rawhide and portmap has started segfaulting on startup. Why don't you create an easy ferdora like (easy ubuntu)or a fedora mint (linux mint) for people new to linux. please do not get me wrong I love Fedora but to make it usable is a lot of work and I would never recomed to a friend because I would slave myself to his dektop. people NEED a dirty Fedora as you would call it. they will call it a usable OS. thank you so very much for your hard work!! --------------------------------- Cheap Talk?
