FC6 on a HP DC7700
by Gianluca Sforna
Hi all,
I just put my hands on a shiny HP DC7700, a Core 2 Duo based PC, but I
can't boot the installer because it hangs right after detecting
keyboard and mouse (PS/2)
Does anyone experienced similar issues?
googling around I already find some (scary...) info, and tried w/o
luck booting with acpi=off (boot, but it seems like hanging on every
screen, then eventually go on with the next after some minutes!),
noapic and nolapic.
any help appreciated
Cheers

[offtopic] Ignacio Vazquez-Abrams
by Arthur Pemberton
Hi guys,
I apologize ahead of time for the offtopic nature of this thread, and
if desired, I will cease any continuation. Threads over on
fedora-extras-list have brought my attention to the e-dissappearance
of one "Ignacio Vazquez-Abrams".
This guy has helped me out many times over of #fedora, and was always
online, despite me changing time zone twice - to the point where I
asked if he was a bot. He seemed to have also had a large load in
package maintaince. Fedora being partly about the community, I have to
ask: does anyone know what happened to this guy? His online presence
seems to have simply ceased as of May-2006. I searched Gmail for
emails from him, the last was in May. His blog
(http://www.ivazquez.net) seems also to have gone quiet as of May.
Just felt that the guy has helped me enough to at least care if he
suddenly died or something.
Peace.

Move Evolution to Extras?
by David Woodhouse
Evolution is fairly much broken in FC5, and there's little movement even
on the 'this mail crashes Evolution' bugs, let alone the "Evolution is
totally unusable with IMAP" bugs.
What are we going to do about it? One option might be to move it to
Extras in the hope that someone will actually start to look after it
there. Or perhaps just drop it entirely? Any better ideas? Volunteers?

[Offtopic] Rather amusing diagram on wikipedia
by Konstantin Ryabitsev
There's an "organizational" diagram on wikipedia that seems a little
fishy to me: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fedora_Project . I'm not up
to speed on the finer details of Fedora Project organizational chart,
but I believe that diagram is a little... random, especially seeing as
apparently the ultimate goal of everything Fedora Project does is RHEL
releases. :)
Maybe someone from the project who is familiar with the orgranization
cares enough to update the page?
Cheers,

New device drivers don't see beyond 15 partitions in fc7
by Clyde E. Kunkel
Hello,
With the change from traditional /dev/hd* type device nodes to /dev/sd*
type nodes, I see that the highest partition number that can be used is
15. Will this change so that higher numbers will be available? I do
have a system that has a drive with almost 30 small partitions used in a
research effort and the number of partitions has not been an issue thru fc6.

Rawhide status
by Mike Chambers
Is rawhide status sort of broken due to kernel, dev stuff (hdx to sdx)
or whatever? Or is that part fixed and even installable or whatever
now?
Hvaen't tried it in a week or longer, and ended up having to reinstall
FC6+updates to get back a usable system.

The cdrecord debate
by David Nielsen
Shortly before FC6 was released we backed down to an older version of
cdrecord because of conflicts between the GPL and the CDDL licenses.
Debian also at that point forked cdrecord into cdrkit and other
alternatives like libburn exist as well. There seemed at that point to
be a concensus that we should stick to cdrecord for FC6 and talk about
replacing it for FC7 since we were already far long into the FC6 cycle.
Don't change horses in the middle of a stream and all that.
So what is the plan here are we going to stick with an old version of
cdrecord or will we be looking for alternatives?

packet writing
by Rafael Espíndola
Fedora 6 has a very minimal support for packet writing. I was able to
use it, but I had to run pktsetup and mount manually.
Debian has an init script that runs pktsetup for each cd rw driver.
The list of cd rw drivers is read from a config file.
It should be easy to port this script, but I think that we can do
better. I am planning to write an udev rule to run pktsetup every time
check-cdrom.sh detects a cd-rw or a dvd-rw. Do you think that it would
be a good thing to do?
Best Regards,
Rafael
