DJB's software components
by Tom Callaway
Recently, most (all?) of Dan Bernstein's software was relicensed into
the public domain.
Please hold off on packaging and submitting these packages for review
into Fedora, pending legal advice as to whether he can actually do that
or not, under US law.
Thanks,

texlive cm-lgc problem?
by Neal Becker
Tried processing one of my old lyx files, got this:
pplatex: Process input file 1lyxpreview.dvi
pplatex: Copy data to 1lyxpreview.dvi
kpathsea: Running mktexpk --mfmode cx --bdpi 300 --mag 1+216/300 --dpi 516 fcmr8r
mktexpk: don't know how to create bitmap font for fcmr8r.
kpathsea: Appending font creation commands to missfont.log.
dvipng warning: font fcmr8r at 516 dpi not found, characters will be left blank kpathsea: Running mktexpk --mfmode cx --bdpi 300 --mag 1+113/300 --dpi 413 fctr8r
mktexpk: don't know how to create bitmap font for fctr8r.
dvipng warning: font fctr8r at 413 dpi not found, characters will be left blank
There seems to be cm-lgc in /usr/share/texmf, any ideas what's wrong?

texlive crash in lyx preview

Since installing texlive in f8, lyx crashes in preview:

Sorry, you have found a bug in LyX. Please read the bug-reporting instructions in Help->Introduction and send us a bug report, if necessary. Thanks !

Bootup speed for F8
by Dimi Paun
Hi folks,
I've currently upgraded to F8, congrats!
Just thought of sharing a data-point for startup speed
(measured from GRUB, so excluding all the BIOS stuff):
* to graphical init: 30s
* to login prompt: 1m8s
* after login, to responsive state: 14s
That's 1m22s to start. On a good desktop: Intel Duo 2.13GHz, 2GB RAM.
With the BIOS thrown in, it takes over 2minutes to be able to get
into the box.
That's rather slow, no?

I'll assume figtoipe makes no sense without ipe
The solution then is probably something like making separate figtoipe
depend on ipe > last_bundled_version, and have it obsolete ipe <=
last_bundled_version

Mock busted?
by Bojan Smojver
Is mock busted in Koji right now?
I'm getting failures like this:
------------------------
/etc/profile: line 38: /bin/hostname: No such file or directory
sh: /usr/sbin/apxs: No such file or directory
------------------------
My package (libapreq2) has httpd-devel as a dependency, so apxs should
be there.
Also:

PROJECT BLACKHAT
by patrick quinn
hello team fedora
me and my team are curentuly working on a reactos (http://www.reactos.org) based os called blackhat which is open source and 100% free.blackhats party piece is its ability to run not only win32 but linux applications nativily.blackhat plays host to the latest open source and gnu software and environments .it will ultimately use the gnome interface as the default gui and have xgl alike abilites.i was wondering if you would be willing to put your name to this project amd give you very minor help and in exchange you will have permenant ad space at the top of are webpage and other fedora promotions troughout the os (eg in the welcome center).we will not ask anything of significance from you just giving blackhat some of that unmistakeable fedora charm.i personally am a huge fan of your os and hence the reason we have come to you.we would really aprecieate a reply be it negitive or positive
seasons greetings

Upstream package splitted into sub-packages: ipe, figtoipe.
by Laurent Rineau
Hi,
One of my packages, ipe, has been splitted upstream into two sub-packages.
ipe-6.0pre28 was shipping the tool "figtoipe", and as for ipe-6.0pre30
figtoipe is now another tarball.
What could I do?
1- I can use two sources to build my package, and let the package
ipe-6.0-0.23.pre30 ship figtoipe.
2- I can make figtoipe be a sub-package.
3- I can submit a review request for figtoipe, as it is an external tool.
What is the best solution? figoipe-20071004.tar.gz is a very small tarball:
11KB. See http://luaforge.net/frs/?group_id=305
Anyway, if I split ipe into two packages, or two sub-packages, how can I
provide an upgrade path for users that assume that /usr/bin/figtoipe is
provided by ipe, without adding a hard-coded Requires? I am not sure that a
solution exists.

Re: InstantMirror-0.2 Release
by chasd

Runs on F7 too.
Thank you for this, it works well in our small business environment
where conserving bandwidth to the internet is important.

The included InstantMirror.conf file that goes into /etc/httpd/
conf.d/ stomps on any other configuration you may have set up.
Because the file name starts with an upper case "eye" it is loaded
first by the
Include conf.d/*.conf
directive. It becomes the _default_ host for everything on port 80.
You can check how that works by
/usr/sbin/httpd -S
mv /etc/httpd/conf.d/InstantMirror.conf /etc/httpd/conf.d/
zInstantMirror.conf
/usr/sbin/httpd -S
( move it back if you prefer the stomping behavior )
From <http://httpd.apache.org/docs/2.2/vhosts/name-based.html>

This directive
NameVirtualHost *:80
should be uncommented in /etc/httpd/conf/httpd.conf
and a <VirtualHost> directive should be set up for the default web
content, and should be loaded before the InstantMirror.conf file.
I have something that works with my test system, but I'm still not in
a position to make a bomb-proof generalized config file
recommendation. It seems using VirtualHost is the best way to create
the Instant Mirror, but integrating that into an existing apache conf
needs to be handled with a bit more care. This could be communicated
with better comments or additional commented out directives in the
provided InstantMirror.conf file.
I use several files in conf.d to create aliases and WebDAV
collections for calendaring and file sharing on our main server. I
haven't tested yet with all those conf files mixed in.
Also, I think separating the logging is a good thing to do with
directives such as
ErrorLog logs/mirror-error_log
CustomLog logs/mirror-access_log
within the InstantMirror virtual host block.
That way when the python script throws a hissy fit about file
permissions, it is easier to find.
Thanks again for InstantMirror,
Charles Dostale
