Headsup: cegui and ogre soname changing update to hit F7-updates soonish
by Hans de Goede
Hi All,
I've received a bug report requesting me to update ogre from 1.2.x to 1.4.x for
F-7 and devel, see:
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=241900
Ian Chapman has already updated cegui from 0.4.x to 0.5.x, which is necessary
for the new ogre. The new cegui is available in updates-testing. ogre and chess
(the only ogre dependend package in Fedora afaik) will get updated soon too.
So if you plan on packaging any ogre using packages, please hold off until this
is resolved. If you have any privately compiled ogre using packages, and you
think this ABI change during a stable release is bad form, please yell loud now
while this can still be reverted.
Thanks!
Regards,
Hans

586 kernels.
by Dave Jones
A day or so ago, I flipped the switch and killed off the 586 specific
kernel, by making the 686 kernel bootable on older machines.
Turns out it isn't that easy however.
Rpm will refuse to install the 686 kernel a 586, because it checks
the arch..
sudo rpm -ivh kernel-2.6.21-1.3228.fc8.i686.rpm
Preparing... ########################################### [100%]
package kernel-2.6.21-1.3228.fc8 is intended for a i686 architecture
(Oddly, the 586 kernel uname is reporting itself as 686 already,
which I don't quite understand..
Linux equinox 2.6.21-1.3194.fc7 #1 SMP Wed May 23 22:11:19 EDT 2007 i686 i686 i386 GNU/Linux)
Anyway.. To 'solve' this, I think I'm going to have to make the 686
kernel package an 'i386' package.
Does anyone see anything flawed with this approach?
(Modulo problems with yum doing exactarch matches and upgrades being
more of a nightmare than usual).

VTP (Virtual Terrain Project) on Fedora
by Rick L. Vinyard, Jr.
I have nearly completed a set of VTP packages for Fedora.
To get VTP packaged and into the official Fedora distribution I have
also packaged Mini, quikgrid and minizip (replacing the unzip library
distributed with VTP).
If anyone is interested in testing let me know and I'll post the srpms
for Mini, quikgrid and minizip along with the current VTP patch that I'm
working on.

Reminder -- Vote in the Fedora Board election
by Max Spevack
I would like to remind everyone to vote in the Fedora Board elections,
which are currently ongoing. If you are getting this message multiple
times, I'm sorry. It's being sent to various lists.
The Fedora Board's membership changes on a rotating basis. This
election is for 3 of the 9 Fedora Board seats. The Fedora Board is the
Fedora Project's "executive committee" and is ultimately accountable for
everything that happens within Fedora, and delegates responsibillity to
various sub-projects accordingly.
Information about the candidates and voting is available here:
http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Board/Elections
Voting will end at 11:59 PM UTC on Sunday July 8th. Anyone who has
signed the Fedora CLA is eligible to vote.
Thank you,
Max
