some man pages have bugs, can't be grep'd

I've been seeing this since clean installing Fedora 30. I don't recall ever seeing it before, including on a Fedora 29 -> Fedora 30 upgraded system (is now the clean installed system). Announcement: Retiring zlib and minizip-compat from Rawhide

The zlib-ng-compat and minizip-ng-compat packages have been in Rawhide for more than a month. Considering things have been working well, we believe it's time to retire the zlib and minizip-compat packages. This step should not cause any changes, because zlib-ng-compat and minizip-ng-compat already obsoleted them. However, if you find any issues, please contact us. Guiding co-dependent RPM packages to swap nicely

Hello. Assume I have two "stacks" of RPM packages available: postgresql16 provides postgresql-any version 16 conflicts with other postgresql-any postgresql16-plugin provides postgresql-any-plugin requires postgresql16 conflicts with other postgresql-any-plugin postgresql20 provides postgresql-any version 20 conflicts with other postgresql-any postgresql20-plugin provides postgresql-any-plugin requires postgresql20 conflicts with other postgresql-any-plugin On my system, I have postgresql16 and postgresql16-plugin installed and I want to "upgrade" to postgresql20*. Using my distribution package manager, I would want to run something like: dnf swap postgresql16 postgresql20 However that will fail, as the package manager does not know I want to also swap postgresql16-plugin with postgresql20-plugin. Is there something I can do as a package maintainer to "guide" the co-dependent swap case? I was thinking something like: postgresql20-plugin: Obsoletes: (postgresql-any-plugin if postgresql-any != 20) However that is not possible in RPM, "No rich dependencies allowed for this type: Obsoletes". Donate 1 minute of your time to test upgrades from F39 to F40

Do you want to make Fedora 40 better? Please spend 1 minute of your time and try to run: # Run this only if you use default Fedora modules # next time you run any DNF command default modules will be enabled again # This is last time we should do that :) sudo dnf module reset '*' dnf --releasever=40 --setopt=module_platform_id=platform:f40 \ --enablerepo=updates-testing \ $(rpm -q fedora-repos-modular >/dev/null && echo --enablerepo=updates-testing-modular) \ --assumeno distro-sync This command does not replace `dnf system-upgrade`, but it will reveal potential problems. You may also run `dnf upgrade` before running this command. The `--assumeno` will just test the transaction, but does not make the actual upgrade. In case you hit dependency issues, please report it against the appropriate package. Or against fedora-obsolete-packages if that package should be removed in Fedora 40. Please check existing reports against fedora-obsolete-packages first: https://red.ht/2kuBDPu and also there is already bunch of "Fails to install" (F40FailsToInstall) reports: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/buglist.cgi?bug_id=2231790&bug_id_type=anddepen… Two notes: * you may want to run the same command with dnf5 to help test new dnf. looking for a maintainer for package remind

Remind (https://dianne.skoll.ca/projects/remind/) is a terminal based reminder utility (with optional Tk GUI frontend). It's kind of a supercharged version of the calendar utility. Remind has been in the fedora packages for many years, but the last update to it has happened in fc24 and after fc29 it got orphaned and disappeared. Installing the fc29 RPM on current fedora versions still works flawlessly but is, by now, somewhat out of date. I'd like to see the package back in the software channels and have updated the SPEC file for fc38 and version 04.02.06 of remind and created a pull request (https://src.fedoraproject.org/rpms/remind/pull-request/2) A request to unretire the package has been made ( https://pagure.io/releng/issue/11740) Doing so I learnt a bit more about the fedora software package world. I'm happy to help and support a package maintainer keeping things up to date and learn more along the way, but taking on the role as maintainer of the package is over the top of my head and my current abilities. So I'd like to ask if somebody was willing to take over the role as official maintainer for the remind package. google-re2 pacakge update and facebook vs google python bindings ?

Hi, At $dayjob we are running into issues with re2 and python bindings. Fedora has a fairly old version of re2 with so.9 while upstream is at so.11. Is there a reason for this? If it is just time, I'd like to help bumping the package in rawhide. Originally, facebook creating python bindings for this, which are packaged in python-fb-re2, but this package is no longer updated as google're2 now has native python bindings (I think the fb one was pulled in and maintained and so the fb one is abandoned upsteam) I'd like to see: - google-re2 updated to version 2024-02-04 - python3-google-re2 python bindings shipped, providing the fb-re2 package. - python2-fb-re2 retired Currently, the google-re2 python bindings do not compile against the older google-re2 we ship (but that might be a fairly trivial fix, that would need to be done for the branches anyway) Added package maintainers to the CC: for additional input. Again, happy to help if time/effort is the only thing holding this back. If there are other reasons for this, I'd very much like to know more. I know there were soname issues in the past.
