Planning and gathering requirements for future Red Hat BugZilla replacement

Hello all, The BugZilla instance at bugzilla.redhat.com is planned to be decommissioned within the next ± half year. The Fedora project needs to plan for what to do in this rhbz-less future. As a first step, FESCo was tasked with documenting workflows ("gathering user stories") that currently rely on RHBZ ("requirements gathering"). We will also separately reach out to individual groups and stakeholders in the project (SIGs, working groups, initiatives, QE/QA, FOA, FCA, FPL, etc.) to ask these groups / people to document how they currently rely on bugzilla - and how these processes would be impacted by a move to a different bug tracking system and / or what potential alternatives could look like. uv 0.12, ruff 0.16 coming to F44/F43 and to EPEL10 leading branch

In approximately one week, 2026-08-12, I plan to update the uv package to version 0.12.x in stable branches F44 and F43. This includes some relatively minor breaking changes[1]; most users will not need to change anything. Similarly, I will update ruff to 0.16.x, also with minor breaking changes[2], and ty to at least 0.0.66. These updates are permitted under existing permanent exceptions to the Updates Policy in Fedora[3]. The uv updates are already in Rawhide; the updates for ruff, ty, and their dependencies will be built simultaneously in Rawhide and in stable branches. At around the same time, I will update uv to 0.12.x and ruff to 0.16.x in the EPEL10 leading branch (currently EPEL10.3), as allowed by corresponding exceptions for EPEL[4], limited to leading branches and to versions through 1.0. No further approvals are needed for these updates, but I do plan to follow the usual announcement and testing procedures for incompatible upgrades in EPEL[5]. I will also upgrade python-uv-build to 0.12.x. This package doesn’t have an Updates Policy exception, but upstream has confirmed that 0.12.0 has no breaking changes from 0.11.0, and the apparent SemVer break is only to keep in lockstep with uv, so it’s safe to ship in stable releases as long as I ensure that any conflicting upper bounds in dependencies on uv-build are resolved, as is already done in Rawhide. For the first time, I will also branch python-uv-build into EPEL10[6]. The ty package remains Fedora-only for now; I am tentatively planning to wait for a 0.1.0 release before branching it to EPEL10. All of these updates have been (or are being) test-built in COPR[7], and I will use the coming week to finish fully impact-checking them. thrift (Apache Thrift) SONAME bump in rawhide

Updating version from 0.20.0 to 0.24.0. side-tag f45-build-side-146163 has been created for rebuilding the packages with hard dependencies: * liborc (for which I am the maintainer) `dnf repoquery --whatrequires thrift` indicates that no other packages depend on thrift. thrift and liborc will be building shortly. I'm not a proven packager, if there are other packages with hard dependencies I am unable to build them for you. I tentatively plan to merge the side tag on 2026-08-10 (Monday) -- Kaleb

Way too much automated email on this list

Hi folks, There is way too much automated email on this list. It's getting ridiculous. I say this as a 'power user' who is no stranger to very high-traffic lists. Today I had to add this "hook" to my main client (Mutt) to will hide the automated gunk from view. So I can at least skim the damn list! folder-hook Fedora/devel 'limit ! (~s "ELN Report" | ~s "Branched Report" | ~s "Rawhide Report" | ~s "compose" | ~s "Meeting")' (I know, I might miss some precious discussion that could branch out from these mails. It's a tiny cost to pay for the skimmability gains.) If we don't fix this deluge, expect non-power users of lists to drop out drastically. Only a handful of those who configured their setup to hell and back[1] might remain. * * * How about creating a 'fedora-notifications' or 'fedora-reports' list and redirect them all there? Or a weekly "digest" with relevant links and reports in a _single_ email. I'm on this list to read what other _humans_ are talking about! Hello, Python's 3.15 license has just got updated to contain Unicode-3.0 for -libs, -debug and the respective freethreading subpackages. fedora-scm-requests has moved to Fedora Forge (Action: please update fedpkg)

Please update to a current fedpkg build so new requests go to the right place. Older fedpkg versions that still point at pagure.io will not work against the new queue. poppler soname bump in Rawhide

Hi, I've prepared rebase of poppler to 26.08.0, in the side tag "f45-build-side-145851". I'll try to prepare needed changes for dependent packages and will contact their maintainers. I will merge it to the main buildroot at Monday (10th of August) just before the branching point. There are several API changes and soname bump of the base library libpoppler.so.*. [heads-up] libedataserver soname version bump in rawhide for 3.61.2

Hi, the evolution-data-server project bumped a soname version of its libedataserver library in the 3.61.2 release, which I'm preparing for rawhide. It was for an API change which touches only evolution-ews, but as it was in the public API the soname was bumped. That means the dependent packages should rebuild just fine. According to `dnf repoquery --whatrequires "pkgconfig(libedataserver- 1.2)" --recursive --enablerepo=rawhide-source` the affected packages are: almanah bijiben bubblemail calls chatty evolution evolution-ews evolution-rspam folks geary glabels gnome-calendar gnome-contacts gnome-panel gnome-phone-manager gnome-shell gnome-todo libreoffice phosh pidgin-chime syncevolution I do not have commit rights for bubblemail gnome-panel libreoffice phosh where I'll need your help with the rebuild. I'll take care of the other packages myself. I've a side tag for this, you can use: fedpkg build --target f45-build-side-145283 to build the package. The soname version was bumped the last minute before the release, thus I could not announce it earlier. The only problem I foresee is the GNOME 51.beta release happening these days, which can make it problematic for the above packages, when I'll do a build in the side tag and someone else will do the update directly in the rawhide. I do not know how these things are usually handled, I'd like to merge the side tag before the 51.beta updates, but I also understand it's a very short notice. I'm going to rebuilt the packages I've commit rights for into the side tag meanwhile. The worst I'll rebuild them again. Bye, Milan
