Funny, I thought it was an odd change in behavior when my PC beeper
stopped working way back in FC2...
AFAIK it happened simply because the PC speaker driver was modularized
in kernel 2.6 and nothing was put into place to get the module loaded.
It appears most people didn't notice or care.
