I must say that, of all the bad suggestions in the multiple threads
this proposal has spawned, I dislike using "/usr/var/" the least.
The path "/usr/lib/sysimage/rpm" does look very out-of-place in
non-image-based systems, so *if* we want to move the rpmdb to a place
that's consistent across all our Editions, it should also be a
location name that makes sense across all Editions.
A path that contains "sysimage" conveys to me that this is somehow
only related to image based variants. Something under /usr/var would
at least be an generic, non-confusing path.
+1 to that. /usr/lib/sysimage is definitely a non-obvious location for
rpmdb, while /usr/var/lib at least suggests it's something akin to
/var/lib.

There should be a science of discontent. People need hard times and
oppression to develop psychic muscles.
