a patch in Fedora first and then seeing if upstream takes it.
Fedora ships and has always shipped plenty of patches. It not being upstream is
definitely an argument against shipping it, but there might be reasons why
shipping it is a net win after all.
Also, if upstream isn't willing to merge patches, it might even make sense to
fork the project.
