Looks like they either still have /var/log/messages,
or their documentation team are lazy.
Be careful about such assumptions. There are bugs in the Fedora documentation as well and you wouldn't want anyone implying that the Fedora docs team is lazy. If you want to actually confirm, download the ISO and check.
