For the d80211 stack it will be in the kernel when it will be ready but

snapshot of the stack to enable their driver on older kernels.
This should not be necessary for us.

Fedora. I'm not 100% sure what the firmware license will be, but that
shouldn't be significantly different from the current ipw2x00 drivers.

(unless in testing) until they have settled down quite a bit. They
still have quite a lot of maturing to do.

Right, the current plan is F7+ only for d80211.
Cool. I'm finding the zd1211rw_d80211 much more stable than the zd121rw
softmac driver. Plus, ipw3945 has an experimental d80211 driver which
does not require the userspace regulatory binary.

When Intel submits iwlwifi for the wireless-dev tree, then we'll get the
driver for Fedora.
And note that the firmware won't be included without the driver as one
of the requirements for the redistributable firmware exception is that
it must enable open code which is already shipped to be able to fully
work.

testing d80211 stack with rt2x00 for a moment and this seems to be
necessary.

It's just like old times... NetworkManager destroys the possibility to
connect. If you service NetworkManager stop it and restart
wpa_supplicant by hand, here at least it works. I had it turned off anyway.
But there is another bug in mac80211 or iwlwifi... when iwlwifi
registers its capabilities with mac80211, the order matters. As it
stands, iwlwifi will only connect at 802.11b speeds, ie, 11Mbps. If you
swap the order of the registration:

NM uses wpa_supplicant for all connections in the background. If your
wpa_supplicant works with mac80211 (or, really, d80211) then it will
likely work with NetworkManager.

Well. The kernel boots, and the modules seems to load fine. There is a
problem however - that I am unsure how to resolve.

There is a hardware-switch that is supposed to turn the radio on and
off, but it does not matter if it is set to on or off - even if I reboot
the laptop witih the switch in either position.

Will zd1211rw (zydas) module be included into the latest FC devel.
build? I tried to git clone your wireless-2.6 a couple of days ago for
testing but failed to complete due checksum error.

It should be there already, both the mac80211 version and the previous
version. You may wish to blacklist the one that you don't want.

It should be there already, both the mac80211 version and the previous
version. You may wish to blacklist the one that you don't want.
I think the zd1211rw and softmac drivers ought to be disabled in the
.config for FC7 release, else both drivers get loaded on boot. I also
think the iwlwifi driver should be added to the rawhide kernel, as the
worst case scenario is that already-not-working hardware does not
work. Best case scenario is that the hardware just works.
