Hello All!
There is a package, already included in Fedora, and there is a
friendly and active upstream developer, who wants to be a
(co)maintainer of this app. (S)he doesn't maintain any packages in
Fedora currently. So the question is - is there a policy on how such
situations should be handled?
I remember, that if Redhat hires someone from upstream, then no
additional procedures with review requests and sponsorship needed (at
least visible to others, outside Redhat) - (s)he just started to be a
(co)maintainer.

I don't know the exact procedure, but they still need to be sponsored.
Sponsors are allowed to sponsor people who are not primary maintainers
of a package.
Because maintaining the package upstream doesn't necessarily mean that
the person knows what they need to be a good Fedora packager, this isn't
going to be automatic.

Anyone that wishes to maintain a package in Fedora, regardless of
their employer, has to be sponsored. It's up to the individual sponsor
of an individual what procedures (or lack thereof) must be followed in
order to sponsor a person, but one would hope that there's at least
*some* sort of filter there. Just because someone is a great developer
doesn't make them a good packager (and vice versa).
All that said, provided this person demonstrated some basic knowledge
of Fedora packaging guidelines, I'd be willing to sponsor them. In
that case, I'd also want watch* on the package(s) in question just to
keep an eye on them :)

For the record, I wasn't hired from 'upstream' and I'm not in the
development group so they may have different procedures, but I certainly
didn't get any automatic packaging privileges when I joined, I went
through the sponsorship process just like any other contributor.
As other replies suggest, I think the procedure in this case doesn't
differ from any other. Being a coder does not automatically make you a
proficient packager, it's just the same as the converse (we wouldn't
assume a good packager was a good hacker).

New subject: Installing F12-Beta
I have already submitted a bug report for this but it seems no one is
looking into it.
This is the problem.
I have a 2.53 celeron with 1gb of Ram nvidia 5500 graphics card.
When I put in the DVD (Install or Live) it starts but then I get a
recursive error saying that it fixed but needs a restart. Of course when
I restart the problem still persists.
Please tell what you need to point in the right direction to fix this
very serious issue.

Just to be sure, you did verify the ISO before burning it (with the
SHA1SUM) and when booting it ?

I did check and I used the same DVD to install on to a flash drive
through my laptop.
That drive boots on most other computers but not the Celeron PC.

about upstream developers becoming co-maintainers.
If there is no relationship, then you've just hijacked an existing
thread by posting your unrelated query as a reply to it -- please don't
do that.
You may also find that you'll get more help if you provide a more
coherent bug report. You neglected to give any useful details about the
error you see. Giving the full error message might have helped. Or even
telling us at which stage of the boot it happens might have given a
clue.
I'd look in the bug you filed to see if you provided that information
there... but you didn't even bother to tell us the bug number.
My crystal ball isn't working today, so I _couldn't_ help you, even if I
_didn't_ have a policy of not helping thread-hijackers until they post
their problem politely ;)

message about my problems installing F12. I did not Hijack any thread
(see the subject name). I thought this was a public forum. I sent this
to the whole mailing list. My apologies if I offended you.
All I can tell you is what happened.
Which is I put the DVD in the drive and after a while it came up with a
recursive error and said it was fixed but needed to restart the
computer.
I.E 1. The kernel failed to load
2. Anaconda did not start.
The same DVD was used to install F12 Beta on a flash drive. So the DVD
is fine.
As I said I have posted a bug report at bugzilla
(https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=531156) but no reply. I
just thought you guys would be interested in a very serious problem that
I am having.
So I willing to put the effort to help whoever, if you point me in the
right direction.

You posted your message as a reply to the other thread. That's what
David called hijacking. You're right that it's not a reason to get
nasty. It's only a little mistake, not a crime :-) Just try to not
repeat the mistake in the future.

I'm not upset, and wasn't nasty. I was just trying to help you
communicate more effectively, and without adding noise to other
discussions.
You _did_ hijack the thread -- you replied to Adam's message, using your
'reply' button instead of composing a new message to the list.
Your mail is clearly marked, in its headers which I quoted, as a reply
to that previous message -- as part of that older thread. It should have
been a _new_ thread, not a reply to the existing thread.
Please don't do that. And, while we're at it, please don't top-post
either. And please remember to quote only what you actually need for
context rather than repeating the _whole_ of the message to which you're

your previous mail, I can see that you didn't post the full error there,
either.
Please, show us the words you actually see on the screen -- or take a
photo, perhaps.

Oh, I guess it's time to consider installing a RAICB, a Redundant Array
of Inexpensive Crystal Balls :-)
Then it's clear the error is actually "Fixing recursive fault but reboot
is needed!" and it's most probably a kernel or hardware problem.
