Hello!
I'm Niharika Shrivastava and I am extremely willing to help shape Fedora's
D&I vision.
1. I was an Outreachy intern in 2019 with Fedora Modularity: You can
check out my work here
<
https://github.com/fedora-modularity/ModulemdTranslationHelpers>.
2. I then became a GCI mentor for Modularity (fun fact: Fedora had the
highest number of contributions this GCI)
3. I held my first FWD event at my university: You can check it out here
<
https://orionstar25.github.io/fwd-19/>. (I had also submitted this blog
post for the Fedora Community Magazine but I think it either got rejected /
still under review / lost.)
4. I gave 2 two talks at Flock 19: Talk 1: here

(Only
the 1st half was recorded :()
5. I have organized various other events centring around D&I at my
university. I will graduate this year and I want to expand Fedora's reach
at my new workplace (hopefully, a LOT more places) as well as help
create/polish new events.
As a newcomer to Fedora's D&I resources (
https://docs.fedoraproject.org/en-US/diversity-inclusion/get-involved/), I
found certain things unclear:
1. Is there any place which shows current statistics about the diversity
situation in Fedora? A simple counter/percentage for underrepresentation
can help us gauge our goals (e.g. aspire to have a 50:50 ratio by 20xx).
2. I feel the resources aim at people who want to directly help with the
D&I cause (i.e, mentor, hold outreach events and campaigns, collaborate
across teams). But there are no "go-to" resources if someone wants to
indirectly help the cause (maybe because they're not up to taking
leadership roles yet) like (but not limited to):
1. Participate in Outreachy.
2. Participate in ongoing FWD events across the world.
3. Want to create content for the D&I team (e.g. posters,
documentation, revamp websites) solely for exposure and learning
purposes.
3. I couldn't find much about previous FWD events except on the Pagure
issues page. But I feel that since FWD has been a success over the years,
there should be a dedicated page mentioning all the past held FWDs, and
scheduled FWDs (this can also help 2.2) along with contact information of
their organizers. This way its easier to collaborate for the organizers
across countries for ideas --- will make a separate ticket for this.
4. The website talks about bi-weekly scheduled meeting but the
calendar is empty (is this expected?).
5. I felt the "*Welcome to the "Fedora Diversity & Inclusion Team"
mailing list*" email was unclear on what kind of adjustments were being
talked about. (I'm sorry for nitpicking but I felt it could be phrased a
little better). 🙈
Having said that, I would love to help out in solving all of these issues
(may take a while but I'm excited to volunteer). I apologize if this isn't
the right place to raise these queries.
Thanking you,
Niharika S.
