Self-Introduction: Jeroen van Meeuwen

Name: Jeroen van Meeuwen
City: Zeist, The Netherlands (GMT+1)
Profession: ICT Specialist
Goals with FDP:
--
I'll be translating the documentation to Dutch, and I hope to be able to
write documentation myself as well, especially howto's and reference
documents. This way, I sincerely hope to contribute to the accessability of
Fedora, and Linux in general.
Qualifications:
--
2 years at the Utrecht University, NL in Computer Science and Economics
3 years at OGD, Secondment Agency, NL (TNO, Amsterdam Police, APX, EPoX,
DHL)
Linux Proffesional Institute Certified, Level 1
Microsoft Certified Professional
That was the educational and professional part, on to the story of my life.
I've been fooling around with Linux ever since RedHat 5.2, but only had
serious business requirements with the release of RedHat 9.0. Although I've
been reading a lot of manuals, howto's and books, I still love the hardest
school: trial and error.
With the release of RedHat 9.0, I bought a box to host websites and email,
and ever since I got more and more serious. I now colocate several boxes at
NL Internet Exchanges and have way too many in my fifteen square meter
bedroom :(
I hope that my experience and knowledge in Linux, Windows and Networking is
not only usefull to others, but can be expanded along the way.
BTW: I can juggle ;)

Translation QSG updated
by Paul W. Frields
I've updated the Docs Project section in the Translation Quick Start
Guide to match current protocols. Could any translators for the
existing versions (it, pt, pt_BR) check out the module and update the PO
files so I can post the new version on the Web? Thank you!

Thnaks very much Karsten, I'm really happy to work with you and other
team members. I've already started a work named "Ftp Server", it will
provide a full guide that will cover a lot of arguments related to ftp
servers with some Mysql informations integrated inside trying to help
out the user with any possible solution. If someone wants to help on
this, just send me a mail or a pm in irc.
Thanks,

Inconsistency in yum-software-management translation
by Hugo Cisneiros
Hau!
While helping Rodrigo Menezes to translate and understand the FDP system, we
ran into a very strange problem. The potfile for the yum-software-management
was completely translated, and is building fine.
As we don't have the webtest working, I uploaded a copy to my page:
http://www.devin.com.br/eitch/fedora/yum-software-management-pt_BR/
The problem is: everything is fine but the Chapter 7. For some very strange
reason that I don't know, some paragraphs aren't translating:
http://www.devin.com.br/eitch/fedora/yum-software-management-pt_BR/sn-usi...
Look at the beggining of chapter 7 and the 7.3 section. The entities are
translating fine, but the whole paragraph isn't. It's a mix with English and
Portuguese :)
I checked the potfile, regenerated it, compared the .xml with the .pot,
retranslated, and so on. It didn't work, so I'm asking for help here :)
Anyone knows what may be happening?
Thanks!

trans automation (i18n.redhat.com/cgi-bin/i18n-status)
by Karsten Wade
Many of you may be aware of the translation tools the Fedora Translation
uses, particularly:
http://i18n.redhat.com/cgi-bin/i18n-status
Because that webapp needs to be on the same machine as the CVS, we
cannot interact directly with cvs.fedoraproject.org and our own PO/POT
files.
For FC5, we tried for having someone manually load PO/POT into their CVS
and making it available through that webapp, which didn't quite come
together.
Currently, the team internal to Red Hat who owns that infrastructure has
committed to working with Fedora Infrastructure to get the CVS
repository and webapp migrated over to *.fedoraproject.org. I have not
seen a timeline for this.
Translators, Bob -- make sure I get back with a timeline and other
details following the Red Hat Summit next week.
Thanks - Karsten

Fedora Documentation
I'll like to write about server applications such as ftp, mail, mysql and
so on, describing and illustrating how you can use them, how you can
optimize settings and more. I work a lot on Irc stuff, starting to
servers arriving to services, clients, and bots and all related things
like Guides that can give an hand to newbies. I'll try to provide how
many docs I can do regarding this and other applications. I'm also an
active translator for the italian language most for Gnome and kde.
Historical qualifications
I work in the Ubuntu Project, I have made a lot of documentation
regarding server-side applications and programs. Right now I'm working
on a advocacy document regarding Edubuntu( I'm a member of Edubuntu Doc
Team). I worked in other documents regarding irc too, one of them is How
to Set Up and Irc Server with working services and more.
I started using computer when i was only 6 after some years i discovered
the great open source world, i didn't wait more, and now I'm here
contributing for a lot of Linux/OpenSource projects like Ubuntu, Debian
and Fedora/Red Hat.
I know quite well php and html, I made in the past a lot of websites
using both of languages. I'm learning C and C++ and in the near future
I'll move to python. I love working in this kind of projects, working in
a Team, contributing to make Linux bigger, i think i can share my skills
helping newbies but also learning from people that have got a great
experience.

Latest CVS commit *may* have changed to much
by Bart Couvreur
Hey all,
On adding the dutch entities files I may haved added to much files
(namely Italian and Portuguese files), for that I would apologize, it
wasn't my intention, I don't know what went wrong. I specified the right
files on the commit, strange things.
Now I checked in the diff and it appears to have just update the xml
with some translated strings, so I suppose it's not that much harm done.
If someone of those languages could check upon it, to be sure thanks.
Again I apologize and hope this won't happen again.

New translation: yum-software-management (pt_BR)
by Hugo Cisneiros
Hi guys,
Rodrigo Menezes translated to Brazilian Portuguese and I revised the
yum-software-management document. It's now available in DocsProject CVS
(under the yum-software-management module) and in Website CVS.
Karsten or Paul: can you confirm that the web version in f.r.c is working? I
commited the files and tagget them LIVE (before double-checking, my mistake,
sorry) as it worked in my local sandbox. I didn't modified /docs/index.php so
it's hidden :D I'll wait for approvation first.
On a side note, as in translation-quick-start-guide, we need to create an 'en'
directory for the document too.
Thanks,
