DuG shifting to XML
by Marc Wiriadisastra
We are starting to get ready for shifting the pages to XML. How do I do
that because I would like to learn how to do it.
Setting up the build files etc. Make blah blah.

Wiki changes
by Mike McGrath
I'm making some more wiki tweaks today, if you're a regular wiki user
please stop by #fedora-admin and let me know how its going. Basically I'm
allowing more processes to run but for a shorter amount of time. This
will cause the longer running threads to be killed much sooner and should
free up resources for the normal day-to-day stuff that has been suffering
over the last couple of weeks. I'm looking into why we've had more
timeouts recently though I suspect its because the release is close, more
people are editing and using the wiki.
Please let me know what your experiences are with the wiki over the next
couple of days.

Announcing FAS2 Tests!
by Mike McGrath
Well, we've been working on it for a long time and even with a last minute
core technology change FAS2 is ready for testing and almost ready for
deployment. What is FAS2 you ask? Its the second iteration of the Fedora
Accounts System. It's based off of TurboGears and has so many standards
and future expandability I won't even go into that here. What I will say
is that we'd like everyone to come test it before we deploy it in the next
week or two.
The test site is at: https://publictest10.fedoraproject.org/accounts/
This system is completely separate from the current running system so feel
free to come in, setup a test account, or 2 or 10, and groups. If you'd
like admin or sponsor access to a group just stop by #fedora-admin and ask
for it and someone will set you up. What are features to look forward to
in FAS2?
* Online help system
* Translations (the systems there but without translations currently)
* JSON Interface
* More comprehensive client for shell access
* Easier to sign the CLA
* OpenID interface (work in progress)
* Much less developer-centeric interface
To get your own local install going just run:
yum install git-core
git clone git://git.fedorahosted.org/git/fedora-infrastructure.git/
cd fedora-infrastructure.git/fas
vi README
If you have any bugs to report please send them to:
https://fedorahosted.org/fas2/
We're also taking feature requests though they will likely not make it
into the initial deployment. Happy hacking!

Re: Beta Release Notes - FINAL EDIT NEEDED
by Jonathan Roberts
Hi all,
Does anybody have a spare half an hour to go through the Beta release
notes and tidy it up? I think most of the content we need is there
(even if it's not all there, we've got pretty good coverage) but
there's just one or two sections that need changing from long bulleted
lists with esoteric iamext4developer bits and bobs that need tidying
before release.
I'm feeling pretty swamped myself just now as it's the last week of
term and there seems to be a million things to do before going home on
Thursday! If it can wait until the weekend then I should be able to do
it then, but if somebody else has the time to tidy things you'd be a
hero :)
Many thanks,
Jon

automatically generate includes for publican
by Murray McAllister
Hi,
Chris Curran kindly gave me a script today that will automatically
generate xi include directives, as used by publican in the
[book_name].xml file. I found this was good for getting existing docs
ready for publican. The script can be found at
http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/MurrayMcAllister
If you can't wait, it is also here:
#!/bin/sh
for i in $( ls ); do
if [[ "$i" == *.xml ]];
then
echo -en "\074xi\072include href=\042"
echo -n $i
echo -e "\042 xmlns\072xi\075\042http\072\057\057www\056w3\056org\00572001\057XInclude\042
\057\076"
fi
done
Thanks Chris!
Kind Regards,
Murray.

Fedora 9 preview release notes clean-up
by Murray McAllister
Hi,
I (perhaps crazily) put my hand up to help with converting the release
notes from wiki to CVS/DocBook. According to the schedule,
http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/DocsProject/Schedule, the wiki freeze
for the release notes is the 16th of March. Before the content is
moved into CVS, the wiki content needs to be edited for clarity,
grammar, and to make sure the correct tags
(http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/DocsProject/WritingUsingTheWiki) are
being used.
I can start going over these
(http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/DocsProject/ReleaseNotes/Beats). Maybe
if others are helping, they could post to the list and let everyone
else know which sections they were looking at.
Thanks a lot for your help!
Kind Regards,
Murray.

Time change and meeting
by Paul W. Frields
I propose that our meeting shift by one hour for the duration of
Daylight Savings Time, to 1800 UTC, so most local time will remain the
same and we don't have to go through nailing down availability yet
again.
So that would be Wednesdays, 1800 UTC/2:00pm EDT/11:00am PDT.
For people around the world not yet on Daylight Savings Time, this will
make the meeting one hour earlier. If and when your time changes, the
time would revert to the previous time; so our UK contingent, for
example, will shift to BST on 30 March, and be back at 7:00pm instead of
6:00pm.

Wiki problems
by Marc Wiriadisastra
I'm going to blame the wiki for this.........
http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Docs/Drafts/DesktopUserGuide/Communications
That page has the following section in it. The wiki text is as follows:
== Kopete ==
''' Kopete '''is the Internet Messenger that is installed in KDE by default.
attachment:kopete.png
In KDE ''' Kopete ''' can be found in ''Kmenu > Applications > Internet > Instant Messenger''
In GNOME '''Kopete''' can be found in ''Applications > Internet > Kopete''
The output however is different. How do I fix this?
Cheers,
Marc

Meeting with RH Docs
by Paul W. Frields
I talked with a couple of folks from the Red Hat Engineering Content
Services (documentation & translation) groups tonight -- part of a
weekly series of meetings, actually. Thanks to the kind participation
of Murray McAllister, we have a splendid opportunity to see how our
toolchain can fit together with Publican, the RH Docs tool for building
documentation. There are probably a few capabilities we have of which
the RH Docs team isn't aware, and some pain points that may require
fixing as well.
I am hopeful that the developer of Publican, Jeff Fearn, will be able to
help out with looking at the FDP toolchain to explore all these issues,
since there aren't many of us here with the combination of the requisite
skills and the time to work on any remaining problems. Doing this work
in the open community is a big win for everyone, especially since it
will help seed a whole new group of documentation writers and editors in
the FDP. As I told the RH folks, I suspect this is not nearly as long
or arduous a process as it sounds. I also think we'll find not only a
lot of common problems already solved, but ways to improve both our
toolchain and Publican as we go.
Thanks to everyone for your assistance as we explore this opportunity
together.
