Docs site will give weird search results
by Paul W. Frields
Hi IRC ops,
The new docs site available at http://docs.fedoraproject.org includes
major changes in the organization of docs. The search feature on the
site may not be fully functional for some time.
Search engines will need to recrawl the site and reindex the content.
It is not possible to rewrite all the URLs required to redirect site
visitors who have old links, because of the number and complexity of
rewrites. When a user hits a "no such page" (404) error, they are
redirected to the top-level welcome document, and on the sidebar the
visitor will find a much more functional menu of documents to browse.
IRC operators may to check any important links they use appearing on
the docs.fp.o site to make those links work as they expect.

Moderators queue
by Paul W. Frields
The Infrastructure team reports that we have 220 held messages in the
Docs queue as of today. If no one is moderating that queue regularly,
then in fairness it should be set to reject posts from non-members so
we are not setting wrong expectations. Also, the longer that queue
gets the more it can potentially slow down mailman (directory length).
I already regularly check and prune three other queues regularly. I
believe this issue has come up before and since we're up against the
same issue, I'd recommend setting the list to reject by default,
optionally with a customized, more polite message attached.

Help with RPM guide
by Jon Stanley
Hey Ben -
I found the RPM guide while Googling around for information about the
python RPM bindings. While the information contained in the guide was
extremely useful (and in fact answered all of my questions), I think
that there are places where it could use some formatting work and
updating (I don't think we need to worry about anyone using Python 1.6
anymore! :D). There also seems to be a bit of "content scope creep"
where Python GUI toolkits and other general Python topics are
addressed that I'm not sure that guide is the right place.
I'm mainly interested in the Python API for my own uses (and we could
probably throw stuff in on the Yum API as well, which is fairly
powerful and lacking documentation), but could probably help with
updating the rest of the guide as well in what little free time I
have, but it seems like something that I can take a little at a time,
and would be happy to help the docs team however I can! :)
Let me know what you think!

Build Fedora12 in Fedora Way
by Murthy Mamidi
Hi,
Not sure who to report this correction to, so took a took best guess and
posted this to docs team.
This following URL
http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Building_a_custom_kernel
gave a wonderful update to building Fedora12. Everything is great except a
minor thing. It is as follows ...
In the step
- 1.3 Copy the Source Tree and Generate a
Patch<http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Building_a_custom_kernel#Copy_the_Source_Tr...>
once the 'diff' is done to generate the patch, the tree under the directory
~/rpmbuild/BUILD/kernel-2.6.$ver/linux-2.6.$ver.$arch/
could *have* files ending in "*.orig" should any update be done via "patch".
Basically I applied patches to the tree instead of hand editing the files.
This left some files with "*.orig".
If this tree is left like this, once the steps, particularly
- 1.5 Prepare Build
Files<http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Building_a_custom_kernel#Prepare_Build_Files>
is done and if one attempts
- 1.6 Build the New
Kernel<http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Building_a_custom_kernel#Build_the_New_Kernel>
it *could* fail, if the any patches that get applied from the original
source itself had to generate "*.orig" file or have clashes. So workaround I
had to use is,
after
- 1.3 Copy the Source Tree and Generate a
Patch<http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Building_a_custom_kernel#Copy_the_Source_Tr...>
is done, I did
cd ~/rpmbuild/BUILD which would be so, by end of 1.3 anyway,
so not really necessary but)
find . -name "*.orig" -exec rm -f {} \

[CHANGE REQUEST] Move to new Publican 2.0-generated docs.fedoraproject.org site
by Nick Bebout
Thanks to Rudi Landmann's hard work, the Publican-2.0 generated version of
the docs.fedoraproject.org site is now ready to be deployed. We (the docs
team) would really like to get this up before the Fedora 13 release. This
will be a usability and visual improvement, as well as making it so that
docs authors no longer have to manually edit html to add a new document or
a new release, etc. This will be handled by Publican.
I am asking for 2 +1's for the following patches, all are to
puppet/modules/fedora-docs/files/fedora-docs-proxy.conf:
[PATCH] Add /public_html onto the end of DocumentRoot
[PATCH] Indexes are not needed for docs.fedoraproject.org
[PATCH] Redirect 404s to the root for docs.fedoraproject.org
[PATCH] Remove old rewrites which are no longer needed
The other (main) part of the change is merging the Publican-2.0 branch of
/git/docs/web.git into master
The new site is up at http://docs.stg.fedoraproject.org if anyone wants to
see it.
Thank you,
Nick, for the docs team

Re: Upcoming Schedule Tasks
by Noriko Mizumoto
Hi Docs team,
I have a question on the trans-task schedule.
John Poelstra さんは書きました:
> Start End Name

Due to recent slip, this task to be also slipped to Start 18-May End
24-May, no?
This is new task added in F13 schedule (if my memory serves correct). We
have not received any file so far, what file format will be for translation?
