Fedora 30 Release Notes season is open!
by Petr Bokoc
Hi Docs!
I'd like to announce that all versioned docs now have a "f30" branch,
and specifically the F30 Release Notes are ready for your contributions.
Anyone who wants to contribute should start here:
https://pagure.io/fedora-docs/release-notes/issues
Then:
1. Pick one or more issues that have "F30" in the title.
2. Open each issue you picked, and click the Take button on the right to
claim it. (If you claim an issue but later find out you don't have time
to write about it, remove yourself from the issue ASAP so others can see
it's free and take it!)
3. Find some information about the issue. A lot of them have plenty of
info in them already; if not, find out who's responsible for the change,
and talk to them on IRC or via mail. Of course it's always better if you
try to do research before you ask questions.
4. Write a release note about the issue. If you're not sure how exactly
a release note looks, check out some of the previous releases for
inspiration. We don't want any long, overly technical texts, the release
notes are meant to highlight changes, not to tell people how to use
something.
5. Now the workflow diverges based on your permissions and technical
skills:
5a. If you know how to use git and asciidoc, we'd appreciate if you
wrote up the release note and sent a pull request against the main repo,
branch "f30". Note that we have a different directory structure for this
release; your contributions should go into one of the files in
"modules/release-notes/pages/". Use the "build.sh" and "preview.sh"
scripts in the repository root to preview your changes locally; see the
repository README for specific instructions. If you can't see the
section where you added your contributions at all, make sure it's
included in "modules/release-notes/nav.adoc".
5b. If the above sounds like gibberish to you, it's fine: just add a
comment with your text into the issue, and ping me on IRC/Telegram or
through e-mail; I'll mark it up for you and make sure your contribution
appears in the final document.
If anyone has any questions, go ahead and ask. The current schedule
shows the preferred final release target at April, giving us less than 3
weeks. The release date may slip, but don't count on it.
Also, note that right now, if you build a local preview of any of the
F30 versioned docs, they'll be missing the table of contents. It's a
known issue and should be fixed soon, I just don't have the permissions
so I need to wait for Adam.
Finally, apologies for doing this so late, I've been indisposed for the
last week or so due to some IRL problems.
Happy writing,
Petr

Possible quick-docs about Kernel Tests?
by Fabrizio Pasqualin
Hi all! I am partecipating to Fedora Kernel Tests Days since a long time and i noticed that everytime a new test day is announced in the fedora magazine, new users willing to partecipate are complaining about lack of documentation and writing comments like "i'd like to contribute but i don't know how to test or where to find the new kernel, etc." (see: https://fedoramagazine.org/contribute-at-the-fedora-test-day-for-kernel-4...)
Actually the documentation about testing the kernel is bit sparse into different wiki pages and blog posts, so i was thinking of writing a guide/how to specifically for the kernel testing days. I was planning to write a blog post linked to fedorapeople or a post in community blog but then i discovered the quick-docs and maybe is the right place to write on? What do you suggest?
Please point me to the right path, i already started to write a draft, so i can upload something here to be reviewed!
Thanks a lot.
in the future maybe i can add quick-docs for IoT test days and Modularity test days too...

Interested in helping out!
by David Yaffe
Hi,
I'm interested in helping out with improving Fedora documentation. My name is David Yaffe, and I'm a Fedora Ambassador from Regina, Saskatchewan Canada. On IRC I go by str8dgedave.
I am a heavy Linux user, both in my personal life, and at work, where I am a Linux application administrator. I am involved at the local LUG level, and with mentoring new Linux users at work.
A big part of my current role at work is creating user documentation. My previous role was the lead support technician for a Help Desk with 200 agents, where I oversaw (reviewed/tested/edited,etc) knowledge base documentation for both external users and our Tier 1 and Tier 2 agents.
I'm not sure if I need a sponsor to join the Documentation team like I had for the Ambassadors. If I do, I am looking for a mentor.
Thanks,
David

FYI: Funding request: Docs FAD for internationalization
by Jean-Baptiste Holcroft
Hello docs contributors.
this has been discussed for a while on IRC, but in case you didn't know
about it, here are the information [0] about the Fedora Activity Day we
plan to do in the coming weeks.
This FAD really is related to scripting/tooling/CI, using bash, antora
and po4a.
If this is what you love to do and you never discussed with Adam or I
before, please reach us on IRC.
Have a nice day,
