#54: Help openmoko contributors get a suitable development platform
-----------------------------+----------------------------------------------
Reporter: chitlesh | Owner: chitlesh
Type: enhancement | Status: new
Priority: major | Milestone: Fedora 13
Component: FEL | Version: devel
Keywords: kicad, openmoko |
-----------------------------+----------------------------------------------
OpenMoko hardware team uses the trunk version of Kicad with their in-house
patches. These patches slowly find their way into the kicad trunk.
New openmoko contributors will need to compile everything from scratch
before having a glimpse to the schematics and layouts, since their
favourite distribution is not providing a compatible kicad version.
This is ticket against Fedora Electronic Lab team to strive to improve
this issue on Fedora so that Fedora users can use opensource software to
develop open hardware.
That said, this should not be limited to the openmoko's needs but also any
other opensource hardware project which are using opensource EDA software.

There is a question by one of the opensource developers of NanoTCAD
whether his code which is a 4-clause BSD is allowed to be packaged in FEL
or not.
I will contact Fedora-Legal and sort out this issue.
