HI,
I love the concept of FEL and I have FEL 10 installed. I have tried
gSchem and Kicad before and the main problems I have are the lack of a
broad component library. Will there be a move to create a component
library to share? I see a site that has a conversion of Eagle libraries
but I am not sure as to the legality or quality.
Without offense, having gSchem, Kicad, and Xcircuit in the release, it
seems like a lack of direction. I would pay for a GPL release that was
focused and had a solid user supported component libraries. I ma not a
great programmer so I am not sure how I can help.

I believe that the PNG files under
/usr/share/doc/gerbv-2.3.0/example/thermal in the
gerbv-2.3.0-1.fc12.x86_64.rpm package have been corrupted during the
packaging process. The same PNG files in the upstream
gerbv-2.3.0.tar.gz tarball are fine.
With eog:
Could not load image 'dsp.png'.

Could not load image 'bpB.png'.

[Fedora-electronic-lab] Alliance VLSI and EPEL-5
by Chitlesh GOORAH
Hello there,
I have spent some time fixing alliance built for EPEL-5. So as from
yesterday, I am providing the _same_ fedora alliance packages for
EPEL-5 repository. RHEL-5/CentOS-5/ScientificLinux-5 users will be
benefit from this repository as explained on
https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/EPEL
Hence if you are planning to deploy a rock stable entreprise linux OS
for electronic design, you can use use CentOS-5 and benefit most of
FEL's apps which are already available on EPEL-5.
http://koji.fedoraproject.org/koji/buildinfo?buildID=129645
Also, yesterday, alliance upstream provided a new release with some
stability for 64 arch and an extra GUI xgra (Graphic graph viewer).
This version has been built and pushed to F-10 and F-11 testing
repostories.
cheers,
Chitlesh

#15: FEL with source + build packages

I would like FEL to include source packages with documentation for various
FEL tools that it ships with for the following reasons:
1. It should be a distro that one can install, use, and develop, without
the need for an Internet connection. For upgrades, developers can obtain
patches and re-build.
2. There are many people who are on dial-up in remote places in India, and
the speeds are slow. It takes a really long time to download the source
packages or refer documentation. It is only useful for chatting. And most
of them on dial-up are on winmodems, and don't have driver support with
Fedora.
3. It will be helpful to deploy this standalone solution in a lab.
If the above can be done, it will be an off-the-shelf distro that one can
simply install and use for learning, development and testing.
I think FEL uses only 1.3 GB, so disk space shouldn't be an issue.
