You're right - the average user probably doesn't (care). It's the
people that have to deal with users through bug reports and other
support situations that want a repotag.
Everything other than a clear "Vendor" id in the package header is
broken. It is only a matter of time before independent packagers not only
set %dist, but also the repotag, mimicking Fedora or EPEL packages. In a
support scenario you need enough details about the user's enabled repos
anyway.
