Bug ID: 2032607 Summary: F36FailsToInstall: hyperkitty Product: Fedora Version: rawhide Status: NEW Component: python-hyperkitty Assignee: michel@michel-slm.name Reporter: mhroncok@redhat.com CC: epel-packagers-sig@lists.fedoraproject.org, infra-sig@lists.fedoraproject.org, michel@michel-slm.name, ngompa13@gmail.com, python-sig@lists.fedoraproject.org Blocks: 1992487 (F36FailsToInstall,RAWHIDEFailsToInstall) Target Milestone: --- Classification: Fedora
Hello,
Please note that this comment was generated automatically. If you feel that this output has mistakes, please contact me via email (mhroncok@redhat.com).
Your package (python-hyperkitty) Fails To Install in Fedora 36:
can't install hyperkitty: - nothing provides python3.10dist(flufl-lock) >= 4 needed by hyperkitty-1.3.5-1.fc36.noarch - nothing provides python3.10dist(mistune) >= 2~rc1 needed by hyperkitty-1.3.5-1.fc36.noarch
If you know about this problem and are planning on fixing it, please acknowledge so by setting the bug status to ASSIGNED. If you don't have time to maintain this package, consider orphaning it, so maintainers of dependent packages realize the problem.
If you don't react accordingly to the policy for FTBFS/FTI bugs (https://docs.fedoraproject.org/en-US/fesco/Fails_to_build_from_source_Fails_...), your package may be orphaned in 8+ weeks.
P.S. The data was generated solely from koji buildroot, so it might be newer than the latest compose or the content on mirrors.
P.P.S. If this bug has been reported in the middle of upgrading multiple dependent packages, please consider using side tags: https://docs.fedoraproject.org/en-US/fesco/Updates_Policy/#updating-inter-de...
Thanks!

--- Comment #4 from Jonathan Wright jonathan@almalinux.org --- I'm interested in helping to maintain this as we use hyperkitty at AlmaLinux. Both remaining blockers appear to have been stalled for a while now with multiple SIGs trying to get added to each with no success.
I'm going to try to reach each packager and if I'm unsuccessful or if they've been active for quite some time I'll follow the Non-responsive maintainer policy.
Please don't remove this from the distribution.

--- Comment #6 from Miro Hrončok mhroncok@redhat.com --- Is it realistic to have this fixed in time for Fedora 37 GA, or can I retire the package to avoid blocked upgrades to Fedora 37? It can be unretired and shipped via an update after the GA.

--- Comment #8 from Miro Hrončok mhroncok@redhat.com --- The error is:
No matching package to install: 'python3dist(mistune) >= 2~rc1'
We cannot update mistune, see https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1782288#c20
But we can probably package it as a separate conflicting package.

--- Comment #9 from Miro Hrončok mhroncok@redhat.com --- The Fedora Engineering Steering Committee has approved [1] to retire the remaining non-installable packages still depending on Python 3.10 from Fedora 37 and Rawhide 1-2 days before the final freeze. We plan to retire this package this Sunday: 2022-10-02. If you wish to fix this package for time for Fedora 37 GA, please request a freeze exception [2].

I don't understand this issue. Hyperkitty 1.3.7 supports Python 3.11. See !490 (merged). As far as the Fedora issue is concerned, it looks to me like a Fedora packaging issue which is beyond our control. https://gitlab.com/mailman/hyperkitty/-/issues/459#note_1256137775

--- Comment #15 from Miro Hrončok mhroncok@redhat.com ---
it looks to me like a Fedora packaging issue which is beyond our control.
That is correct.
The package fails to install in Fedora 36 with Python 3.10, not because of incompatibility with Python 3.10 or Python 3.11 but because it has missing dependencies (in Fedora).

--- Comment #16 from Ben Cotton bcotton@redhat.com --- This message is a reminder that Fedora Linux 36 is nearing its end of life. Fedora will stop maintaining and issuing updates for Fedora Linux 36 on 2023-05-16. It is Fedora's policy to close all bug reports from releases that are no longer maintained. At that time this bug will be closed as EOL if it remains open with a 'version' of '36'.
Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, change the 'version' to a later Fedora Linux version. Note that the version field may be hidden. Click the "Show advanced fields" button if you do not see it.
Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that we were not able to fix it before Fedora Linux 36 is end of life. If you would still like to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it against a later version of Fedora Linux, you are encouraged to change the 'version' to a later version prior to this bug being closed.

If you are unable to reopen this bug, please file a new report against an active release.
Thank you for reporting this bug and we are sorry it could not be fixed.
