Hello everyone,
My name is Magnus and I am from Denmark.
I would like to participate in the development of Fedora and in the
community. I am a mechanical engineer and i have worked extensively with
software development during my career. I have not really participated
actively in the existing FOSS projects before now. I would like to be part
of it though.
I have recently switched from Ubuntu based distros to Fedora as my main
distro for my desktop and laptop computers. I have worked with graphics
since i got my first computer an Amiga 2000 in 1988. I have experience with
GIMP, Inkscape, Blender, KDEnlive and many other programs like them. I have
programmed a lot in many different languages and feel proficient to solve
most problems. I also have some limited experience with administration of
infrastructure. I unfortunately have not yet packaged any software with RPM
but i have packaged software for deployment before. The following
programming languages are where i have developed extensively:
Python
Java
C/C++
C#, VB .net
Javascript
The following languages are where i haven't coded in a while or very
little. but where i wouldn't mind learning more.
Fortran
Matlab
BASH
VBS, CMD
APDL
Rust
LISP
I have some experience with BASH scripting but this is something I would
like to improve.
I have no experience with mailing lists, but i would like to learn. I
currently use Matrix, Discord and Telegram mostly for real time chatting. I
only have very little experience with moderating and administrating forums.
I would like to participate with some hours every week both in community
and with coding.

Hello Fedora Project!

Greetings Y'all!
My name is Jake, I'm a dad who moonlights as a data center technician/supervisor in Dallas, Texas, US. I'm proudly neurodivergent (ADHD) and thus when I tried to list some of my hobbies, figured the body of the email could serve better purposes.
I came to the tech/IT world after getting a degree in marketing, then realizing after about a year in the workforce I didn't actually want to be a copywriter. I ended up taking an IT job - since I'd been a help desk technician for the entirety of my time in college - and then realizing I absolutely loved doing that instead. I'm currently working on my Linux+ and Network+ certifications, learning to program in Python, and having fun monkeying around with Docker/Kubernetes in my humble homelab. One of my many hobbies lately is trying to self-host as many of my quality-of-life applications as I can, so have been learning a lot about containers and virtualized solutions.
I'm finding that jack-of-all-trades is a common animal to encounter in the IT world, and I'm no different. A few of the hats I currently wear (or have worn at some point) are:
- Server administration
- Technical writing
- Content/copy writing
- Audio and video editing
- Software and hardware QA
- Application and infrastructure deployment
- Probably have at least some knowledge/interest in a few dozen things beyond this
In terms of Linux, I have gone from "well I have this old computer and I'm too broke for a Windows license" to "I don't know why I ever used anything else" in the span of about 10 years. Started with a JoliOS netbook borrowed from my brother for college, moved onto Ubuntu, and lived there for a while as my go-to distro. However, the longer I worked in the IT world, the more of the Linux family I was exposed to, so I thought it prudent to learn. I picked up Fedora because it was in the same ecosystem as CentOS (a distro I interact with often at work) and then loved it. I've now got an old ThinkPad T420 running Fedora 36 with GNOME (and running it very well, I might add), a newer gaming machine I've got multi-booted with Fedora 36 KDE, Garuda Dragonized, and Windows 10, and lately my go-to VM in the workplace has become Fedora 36 XFCE. There's too many cool things about the different desktop environments to just use one, but Fedora has been so intuitive and the community so helpful that I've come to love it.
And thus begins this, my first foray into the world of being a FOSS contributor. It's something I thought about a lot these past few years and decided to finally start doing. I've really come to embrace the philosophy and practical benefits of the open source ideology, especially as my skills and awareness have grown these past few years, so happy to finally get involved. In practical terms, I think I'd make a decent contributor to any technical documentation, as well as community-generated content like Fedora Magazine or the Fedora Podcast. I'm also happy to lend any hardware I can get my hands on to the cause to help with testing.
Speaking of the Fedora Podcast, I had already found Fedora before the podcast, but the podcast is definitely what pointed me in the direction of becoming a contributor. The content was fantastic and the community-focused stuff definitely gave me the desire to participate.
Anyways, as I always do, I've been pretty long-winded here. Happy to answer any questions or address anything I might have left out, though!

I have intermediate knowledge in C programming, and have recently started to learn Rust
I am currently an undergrad at West Bengal university of Technology and plan to join a PhD program in the future in Computer Science and hopefully this would be quite an experience I also enjoy design, I look forward to helping out build the OS we all love!

Introducing Myself

Hello,
My name is Levy Scalise, I am a Brazilian, doing a PhD in Physics. Always
loved the open-source community and ideals, used Linux for more than 10
years. My skills are Basic Python, Basic C and starting to get an interest
in Haskell.
After 10 years I think it is time to return something to the open source
community.
I know about the Fedora Project just researching Linux and distributions.
I have used Free/Open-Source for 10 years, I already did some distro
hopping but then stopped on Fedora.
This is the first time I participated in FOSS.
Trying to learn and increase my knowledge in small steps and help the
community.
I have a bachelor in Physics and a Master's Degree also in Physics where I
work with Quantum Simulations, have some skills with Linux and CLI (just
basic things), basic python, basic C and starting to study Haskell on my
own.
I use GNU/Linux and Fedora is my main distribution.
I am looking to spend 6 hours per week.

Introducing myself

Hi, everyone.
I am Muhereza Herman, a Ugandan by nationality. I completed my bachelors
degree in software engineering and application development last year.
My experience with Free/Open Source Software (FOSS) communities/ecosystems? I
am enthusiastic about open source, i have had the chance to contribute to
an open source project called openMRS as a QA engineer. I have previously
worked with java, spring framework, jpa/hibernate,lombok, selenium,
cypress, restassured, cucumber-bdd framework to automate end to end tests,
rest api tests. I hope to find in fedora, a community willing to assist,
mentor me and other newbies into development, QA and technical writing for
us to make meaningful contributions to the fedora project.
It is on that background that I have decided to join the fedora community
and try to contribute as I learn from the community. I would love to join
the documentation team and QA team if possible.
I have been a linux user for about 5 years now and it's been wonderful
hence feeling the need to join fedora and help push the cause.
Communication channels? I have not used mail lists before, the
communication channels i have used include slack, telegram, discord.

Introducing Myself

Hi!
My name is Maíra Canal, I'm Brazilian, 20 years old, and currently, I'm
studying Computer Engineering at the University of São Paulo. I'm a huge
Fedora fan since Fedora 34. I mean, I have two laptops, and all of them
run Fedora. I have Fedora stickers on my backpack and my nickname at the
University almost became Fedora as I was a Fedora evangelist on the campus.
I tell more about the way learned about the Fedora project in this blog
post [1], but, short story, I was pretty mad with Pop_OS!, watched a
YouTube video, and got madly fascinated by Fedora 34. Installed and,
since then, I and Fedora live a love affair. I love the Fedora community
and how the distro is managed, although I wasn't a direct part of this.
But, I would like to change that. I really want to help Fedora become a
better distro each and every day! Ok, so let's hop on to my skills.
My first contribution to open-source was in October 2021 to the Linux
Kernel. Since then, I have over 20 patches merged to mainstream and a
couple more on review [2]. I also have contributions to
meta-openembedded, kworkflow, and IGT.
Moreover, I speak Brazilian Portuguese natively, so I have already done
some translation work for GNOME.
I'm also pretty engaged in the open-source community in Brazil, as I
have contact with three important college-related FOSS groups.
Currently, I'm part of Google Summer of Code on the X.Org Foundation. My
project is related to KUnit and AMDGPU drivers, and you can check more
on that here [3][4].
Ok, that's my FOSS background. About my skills:
- I really like to program in C, C++, and Rust. I also know how to
program in Java, Python, and JavaScript, but it's not my passion. I love
to work with low-level code and system architecture.
- I use Git as my version control system.
- I know how to package a simple rpm package.
- I like community development and outreach (FYI I found out about
Fedora Join while looking for Fedora Ambassadors).
- I speak Portuguese natively and speak English fluently.
- I don't have any other OS other than Fedora (as you can check on [1]
if Fedora doesn´t support, I build support but I don´t install a new
distro). I use Fedora Workstation with GNOME.
I believe I would fit well on some development projects or community
development projects. I would really like to see the Fedora community in
Brazil grow (maybe see a Hatch in São Paulo next year). Also,
documentation and translation are jobs that I could help with.
Regarding communication platforms, I have used mailing lists before (on
the kernel). I'm always on Matrix/IRC, so I believe that's my favorite
real-time chat platform. I never moderated any forums.
In terms of volunteering, I believe about 6-8 hours per week. Sometimes
less (in finals week for example), sometimes more (vacation).
