The end user is not expected to know this stuff. However, she/he is
expected to find out and learn(google mostly). It isn't possible for any
foss community to go out and educate people. FOSS is highly *highly*
based on self learning/teaching.
I wrote that to promote Fedora, we must promote it with applications
for target groups.
Businesses would want libreoffice, would want an accounting package,
perhaps a FOSS ERP package or more. When businesses can get all this
for free, they will be interested. But with making that into a SPIN
would be a great job and it will help better than with reams of swag.
It's a good idea. We have the software in our repositories already.
However, you must understand that this is not the correct channel for
this discussion. It is important that you make the correct discussions
with the correct people. Also note that all our software is available
free of cost, and any one can make themselves a spin (many people
already do). If you're interested, please go ahead and take the
initiative.
We must promote Fedora to the business world with business
applications. Businesses have bought desktops, but are not interested
in spending money. They will not upgrade their systems until they
break, or until they are forced.
Unfortunately, I disagree. Fedora is a comparatively fast moving
operating system. Businesses do not use systems that need quick updates,
or version upgrades. Even when troubleshooting, we suggest that people
make use of rhel/centos/scientific linux for their servers and
businesses. Besides, there is no commercial support available for
Fedora. The community helps people, but it isn't commercial support like
RHEL provides.
Fedora is good as a personal desktop linux distribution, but that's all
I'd suggest personally.
