Flock 2016 talk recordings now available
by Justin W. Flory
Hello all,
As of this morning, most of the Flock 2016 recordings from talks are
uploaded to the Fedora Project YouTube channel. You can find all of the
videos here in this playlist...
https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL0x39xti0_65Anh9Ik2riyO-ilHXcVrcH
…or, you can find them in table format on the wiki on this page.
https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Flock_2016_Talks
There are a few caveats and notes that need to be mentioned.
=== Microphone issues ===
Unfortunately, two laptops seemed to have defective microphones for the
conference.
The microphone on the Chelmonski laptop was completely dead, and as a
result, any and all talks in that room do not have any audio. :( I don't
know of any way to resolve this (I also don't have the source files to
check if the audio was lost in upload).
The openQA laptop microphone picked up loud feedback, and as a result,
all talks in that room have annoying feedback that interferes with
listening to the video. I also don't know of a way to resolve this issue
either.
=== Picasso talks not yet available ===
At this time, all talks from the Picasso room are not yet uploaded. The
videos have been progressively uploaded throughout this week and
manually sorted and processed. I anticipate that the last round of
uploads will be coming soon for all Picasso talks. I will send another
update here when they are available.
=== Speakers! ===
==== Check your links! =====
Speakers! The videos, playlist, and wiki page were all processed
manually and at a very early time in the morning – if every speaker
could locate their talk on the wiki page, check the links, and then also
review the YouTube video and its description for accuracy, that would be
a huge help. There's too many for me to go back and review them all.
If you could please review the links, descriptions, and video for your
talk to make sure they're right, that would be a huge help as it's very
likely I missed one or two. If you do notice something wrong, please
reply back here. Otherwise, you don't need to worry about notifying.
==== For those with disrupted audio… =====
If your talk was one of the ones with no audio or disrupted audio,
please consider uploading your slides or any other resources for your
presentation as soon as possible. Please make sure you add the link to
slides on the wiki page for your talk(s).
https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Flock_2016_Talks
Also, once you add it to the wiki page, please ping me with a
notification that you have added your slides, so I can go and add the
link to the YouTube video for your talk. This should help with
preservation and helping remote viewers at least get something out of
the presentation / talk.
Thanks! If you notice anything else odd, don't hesitate to reach out to
me. Enjoy!

FLOCK 2016 Retrospective?
by Chris Ward
Hi!
Is there any event retrospective hangout planned for folks to provide
feedback, ask questions, discuss what went well and how we could
improve things for next time?
Not sure if it's standard procedure or not; I didn't see any form or
other place where folks could drop feedback in general either. Maybe I
just missed it?
Thanks!

[Flock16] [Transcription] Fedora Hubs Meetup/Hackfest
by Justin W. Flory
These are the minutes from the Hubs workshop at Flock today. I'm sending
this out to a couple of lists because I think it's something super
interesting to multiple teams, and the summary (I feel) does a good job
of explaining a complicated thing into common English. Enjoy!

Meeting summary
---------------
* Getting ready / Introduction (jflory7, 11:33:16)
* What is Hubs? (jflory7, 11:48:42)
* Using fedmsg to capture all sorts of activities and information in
Fedora (jflory7, 11:48:53)
* Messages that cross over the bus all involve contributor activity -
1 thing with a problem (like other projects) is no easy way to
connect people with teams that are of interest to them and resources
they need to interact with these teams (jflory7, 11:50:19)
* Systems we use to talk to contributors has their challenges: IRC is
challenging but it's not something most people in the world are
familiar with, have to get client, join channel, register with
NickServ, etc. (same thing can go for mailing lists) (jflory7,
11:51:15)
* Fedora Hubs brings together many systems that we use for
communication and coordination and into a web-based view that
quickly connects people to teams with people in there and what's
happening in there (lowers the learning barrier) (jflory7,
11:51:52)
* Use a widget to follow a discussion and writing a reply, monitor
discussion, etc. (jflory7, 11:52:12)
* Because we have fedmsg, we don't need to vent new channels and new
activities that creates Balkanization problem of new vs. old
contributors (jflory7, 11:52:50)
* IDEA: Opening new views into existing systems (jflory7, 11:53:12)
* Hubs is designed to not just be one arrangement, each team can have
its own hub (jflory7, 11:53:24)
* What do we want to do? (jflory7, 11:54:30)
* LINK: https://pagure.io/fedora-hubs/issue/243 (mizmo, 11:55:35)
* LINK: https://hubs-dev.fedorainfracloud.org (jflory7, 12:03:03)
* LINK: https://hubs-dev.fedorainfracloud.org/skrzepto/ (skrzepto,
12:06:38)
* === Widgets === (jflory7, 12:10:54)
* Adding widget to hub: View your Hub in edit mode, choose your
widget, add it, and configure it on the prompt right after
(jflory7, 12:12:44)
* Requesting a new meeting in Hubs creates a new meeting in Fedocal
(jflory7, 12:16:04)
* pkgdb: Seeing packages ready to be pushed to stable and other
similar details in widgets (jflory7, 12:17:37)
* Badges: View all of your badges (jflory7, 12:17:44)
* Pagure: Newest open pull requests on Pagure tagged with fedora-infra
tag (jflory7, 12:17:57)
* Can also interact with GitHub and Bugzilla (other widgets coming
from outside sources) (jflory7, 12:18:29)
* IDEA: Avoiding silo of communications: Sticky note is maybe not a
good idea because then it isolates those *not* using Hubs, so there
could be separation of information that someone may miss if they are
not on Hubs (jflory7, 12:19:39)
* IDEA: WhenIsGood widget, but need to take caution on communication
silos where it could separate the contributors who are and are not
using Hubs (jflory7, 12:20:13)
* === Hubs groups === (jflory7, 12:20:26)
* LINK: https://hubs-dev.fedorainfracloud.org/designteam/ (mizmo,
12:21:45)
* LINK: https://hubs-dev.fedorainfracloud.org/groups (jflory7,
12:22:54)
* Able to have community rules and guidelines in a group hub, as well
as meetings for schedule and past meeting minutes all from the main
team widget (jflory7, 12:23:54)
* HELP: Need more help on widgets, designing the hubs themselves for
groups - design team has good representation with ryanlerch and
mizmo, but we need more input and involvement with other groups and
teams (jflory7, 12:25:29)
* HELP: Packager needs help and input since it's a large group
(jflory7, 12:25:49)
* LINK: https://github.com/fedora-infra/zanata2fedmsg (jflory7,
12:26:16)
* IRC widget in progress which allows you to view design team channel
(a la Facebook Messenger style) on IRC, you can live chat with the
folks you can see on the hub (jflory7, 12:27:21)
* Q: "My personal hub... will people be able to see that?" (jflory7,
12:30:48)
* A: Yes, but plan to get private and public side, e.g. your live
feed, library widget, things from FAS (jflory7, 12:31:28)
* Personal stream in development for saving things from your incoming
stream for later reference (jflory7, 12:32:28)
* === History of project === (jflory7, 12:32:48)
* New Hubs superhero will be sayan for leading the project forward
(jflory7, 12:33:54)
* HELP: We need some assistance with the IRC widget with user use
case, we're working with developers to developers - mockups would be
helpful (jflory7, 12:35:47)
* LINK: https://pagure.io/fedora-hubs/issues?tags=needsmockup
(jflory7, 12:35:48)
* === So what do we want to do moving forward? === (jflory7,
12:42:18)
* LINK: https://pagure.io/fedora-hubs/issue/243 <= scavenger hunt, if
anyone is up for a challenge (mizmo, 12:43:15)
* Q: "Do you have a Vagrant set up for this?" (jflory7, 12:45:10)
* A: No-yes? ryanlerch has something he has been working on as a work
in progress, but needs some more visiting (jflory7, 12:45:47)
* HELP: fedora-hubs#243 could use another pair of eyes (jflory7,
12:46:59)
* Open hacking (jflory7, 12:50:10)
* LINK: http://localhost:5000/designteam/ <= no problem (mizmo,
12:52:42)
* LINK: http://localhost:5000/duffy/ <= oopsie (mizmo, 12:52:50)

Ride share: Sat, Aug 6, ~4am
by Justin W. Flory
Hey all,
I wanted to see if there was anyone else that was catching super early
morning flights on Saturday and may want to split a cab fare from the
hotel to the airport, probably somewhere between 3:30am and 4:00am. My
flight departs at 6:25am.
Let me know if anyone is interested and we can make arrangements ASAP!
Quickest way to reach me for now will probably be on Telegram, @jflory7,
but email or IRC also works.
Thanks!

[Flock16] [Transcription] Budget Workshop
by Justin W. Flory
A fair note on this one, workshops are difficult to transcribe, so the
"notes" I took were more links that were helpful / useful that came up
during the workshop more than actual content about the discussions we
were having.

Meeting summary
---------------
* Introduction (jflory7, 13:33:43)
* Talking about Pagure, open source git forge (jflory7, 13:33:54)
* Background (jflory7, 13:34:00)
* Fork, pull request, three repositories per project (sources, pull
requests, tickets) (jflory7, 13:34:21)
* New UI, new architecture, and lots of new features with recent
growths (jflory7, 13:35:06)
* Architecture (jflory7, 13:36:21)
* Diagram on-screen of how all of Pagure architecture fits together
(see slides / video feed later) (jflory7, 13:36:53)
* EventSource server: If two people working on ticket / PR, one is
making comment, new comment magically appears on other user's page
(jflory7, 13:38:20)
* Gitolite has always been a part of the project for managing user git
repos and projects (jflory7, 13:39:56)
* Features (jflory7, 13:39:59)
* Doc hosting / repos (jflory7, 13:40:03)
* To generate docs, you push source to the docs repo, view page, and
updates quickly and instantly (jflory7, 13:41:59)
* LINK: https://docs.pagure.org/pagure/ (jflory7, 13:42:16)
* === Watch project (Gaurav Kumar) === (jflory7, 13:42:55)
* Watch a project, get notifications as if you had commit rights
(except on priv. tickets) (jflory7, 13:43:22)
* === Roadmap === (jflory7, 13:43:55)
* Migrating Trac features to Pagure was a major focus, like roadmaps
(jflory7, 13:44:31)
* === Customized PR page === (jflory7, 13:45:57)
* You can customize the information displayed in pull requests
(jflory7, 13:46:49)
* Includes what branch and repo pull requests go into, add a note
about contributing (e.g. "how to test your changes before
submitting") (jflory7, 13:47:22)
* === Issue templates === (jflory7, 13:48:10)
* Different issue templates for different ticket types (jflory7,
13:49:24)
* === Diff between x commits (Oliver Guitierrez) === (jflory7,
13:49:39)
* LINK: https://pagure.io/pagure/c/5803a79..3c85bbc (jflory7,
13:50:08)
* Q: "Can we compare against dates? e.g. Jan 1 and Mar 30?" (jflory7,
13:50:36)
* A: Currently not, only two commits. Technically possible, no reason
why not. Merge commits could affect whether this is accurate or not
as well, e.g. if changes were made before date, but were merged in
during that timeframe (jflory7, 13:52:07)
* === Take issue (Ryan Lerch) === (jflory7, 13:52:43)
* Before, if you wanted to take an issue, you needed to edit metadata,
find your username, save metadata (jflory7, 13:53:11)
* Now, you click the button in the issue and you will auto-assign it
to yourself. No refresh necessary (jflory7, 13:53:28)
* Q: "Right now, if you have page open for a long time, will it work?"
(jflory7, 13:53:47)
* A: Will work because connection never closes. Problem is that some
endpoints is over cross-site scripting, other concerns as well were
considered too. (jflory7, 13:54:50)
* === Live completion (Eric Barbour) === (jflory7, 13:55:01)
* Auto-completion for tagging username or IDs for tickets / PRs, e.g.
@jflory7 or #17 (jflory7, 13:55:27)
* === README file at creation (Ryan Lerch) === (jflory7, 13:56:08)
* Most people used to git, not a problem, but more in mind for new
users (jflory7, 13:56:18)
* === Fake namespace === (jflory7, 13:57:00)
* Want to have Pagure as front-end for dist-git (jflory7, 13:57:19)
* Run x instances of Pagure for x instances of pkgdb, not effective
solution when you can just run one. Won't be able to search between
Pagures. (jflory7, 13:58:16)
* Adding namespacing would break all previous projects and change all
URLs for all projects (jflory7, 13:58:43)
* Solution? Adding one slash to the end of a project configuration
(jflory7, 13:59:48)
* === New hooks === (jflory7, 14:02:54)
* ReadTheDoc hook: Push to PAgure, update ReadTheDocs (jflory7,
14:03:14)
* Block un-signed commits: Blocks PRs from being merged if they are
unsigned with GPG (jflory7, 14:03:37)
* Block non-fastforward commits: If you want to keep the log clean,
keeps merge commits out and only relevant commits (can also specify
which branch to have this apply to, e.g. `master`) (jflory7,
14:04:26)
* === Better Pagure hook === (jflory7, 14:04:32)
* Close ticket / PR via commit message (e.g. `git commit -s "close
issue #10 close pull request #6"`) (jflory7, 14:05:11)
* Future (jflory7, 14:05:42)
* === Private repository (Farhaan) === (jflory7, 14:05:55)
* === CI integration (Farhaan) === (jflory7, 14:07:11)
* Pull requests can have flags to automatically build projects on
other services, e.g. Jenkins (jflory7, 14:07:28)
* Aimed for next release (jflory7, 14:07:32)
* === Front-end for pkgs.fp.o (Vivek Anand) === (jflory7, 14:08:04)
* LINK: http://pkgs.stg.fedoraproject.org/pagure/ (jflory7,
14:10:19)
* Work in progress, but implementation is public, in staging
(jflory7, 14:10:22)
* Q: "Can I do stuff with this or will it break things?" (jflory7,
14:10:24)
* A: Shouldn't break anything, but if it does, we need to look into
it! (jflory7, 14:10:26)
* === Mirror sources === (jflory7, 14:11:41)
* Designed to be made so you can move things from Pagure instance to
Pagure instance (jflory7, 14:11:52)
* Maybe you have a private Pagure instance and want everyone to be on
there, should be able to port all packages over to the other
instance (jflory7, 14:12:26)
* When you push to Pagure, it will do a git push to another git server
(jflory7, 14:12:43)
* Community (jflory7, 14:13:09)
* 56 contributors, 33 contributors at 1.0, 2 GSoC students this year
(Vivek Anand & Farhaan Bukhsh), 2 Red Hat interns (Eric Barbour and
Simon) (jflory7, 14:13:51)
* Top 10 contributors: pingou, ryanlerch, farhaanbukhsh, Johan,
Clement, Vivek, Farhaan, Sayan, Lubomír, puiterwijk (jflory7,
14:14:50)
* Being packaged in Debian (jflory7, 14:16:34)
* Used outside our community (jflory7, 14:16:37)
* LINK: https://git.48.io (jflory7, 14:16:41)
* LINK: https://git.pignus.computer (jflory7, 14:16:44)
* Evaluated by two start-ups (and a team at RackSpace!) (jflory7,
14:16:53)
* Questions (jflory7, 14:17:36)
* Q: "When is dist-git for Fedora going to be in prod?" - mattdm
(jflory7, 14:17:57)
* A: As soon as we support it! It just reached staging, not entirely
deployed (jflory7, 14:19:23)
* Q: "Is it designed in a way to work around problem by packaging
dist-git into pagure.io?" - mhroncok (jflory7, 14:21:58)
* A: Leverage pagure.io for pkg apps and relationship between fork and
where it's coming from (jflory7, 14:22:09)
Meeting ended at 14:24:12 UTC.
