Could this be because I am not a list subscriber? I logged in with my Google account -- my email address there is same as my Fedora account email -- but not sure if that gives me sufficient Hyperkitty rights to post replies. This could be confusing to users if they don't know where to subscribe, or that a subscription is required for posting replies.

Indeed, your message is held because you're not subscribed.
For now I'll add a message saying you should be subscribed, but I guess the best behavior would be to subscribe you with the "no delivery" option on.
What do you think ?
