Summary: Separate Japanese font configuration files for ghostscript

Summary: Separate Japanese font configuration files for
ghostscript
Product: Fedora
Version: 11
Platform: All
OS/Version: Linux
Status: NEW
Severity: medium
Priority: low

AssignedTo: tagoh(a)redhat.com

I'm not sure which component should be assigned for this bug. So I initially
assign this bug to japanese-bitmap-fonts because the files for discussion is
now owned by japanese-bitmap-fonts package.
Description of problem:
Now
/usr/share/ghostscript/conf.d/CIDFnmap.ja
/usr/share/ghostscript/conf.d/FAPIcidfmap.ja
/usr/share/ghostscript/conf.d/cidfmap.ja
are owned by japanese-bitmap-fonts. But they never use fonts which are bundled
in japanese-bitmap-fonts.
Moreover, fonts which are set in the config files are dispersed among some
packages.
So we need to separate ghostscript contig files from japanese-bitmap-fonts and
they should be provided by another package (or included in ghostscript or
ghostscript-fonts package).
I suggest the following idea.
1. Universal
/usr/share/ghostscript/conf.d/{CIDFnmap.ja,FAPIcidfmap.ja,cidfmap.ja} is owned
by new (eg. ghostscript-fonts-japanese), ghostscript, or ghostscript-fonts
package.
2. Each Japanese fonts have their own CIDFnmap.ja, FAPIcidfmap.ja, and
cidfmap.ja files i their common package.
Discussion required:
* fonts priority
* file owner for ghostscript config files
* package structure of IPA fonts are not ready for generate common subpackage
now (bug 507261)

Description of problem:
JTextArea & JTextField do not send XIM_SET_IC_FOCUS & XIM_UNSET_IC_FOCUS to XIM
server.
When JTextArea & JTextField work with XIM input methods, it do not set or unset
ic focus via XIM protocol. So XIM server can not handle focus for Java
application properly. I did not try other java widgets, maybe they have this
problem too.
Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):

Description of problem:
It is a long-standing problem that publican books can be generated correctly
for Indic since Indic (Indian) fonts do not include ASCII glyphs.
If fop was able to fallback to fonts or better use pango or some similar font
abstraction to isolate the hardcoding of fonts from fop itself then this would
just work. This requires some work upstream I guess but I would like to track
this here in the open for fedora.

I'm using irssi on gnome-terminal (Monospace font), after update Japanese fonts
changed, they're now much smaller (compared to latin), harder to read (some
ideograms are completely unreadable). It is very annoying, because I use
Japanese and sit on Japanese channel a lot. The change occured only in
terminal, in gEdit and other applications old fonts are still used for typing
(SCIM + Anthy) and displaying.
The change didn't affect everyone, some Fedora 10 still got old, simple and
readable fonts.
Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
Just try displaying any Japanese text.
This is the update, that probably changed fonts:

The Liberation fonts are missing the Greek Polytonic characters (Greek Extended
Unicode group).
In practical terms, the Greek Extended Unicode group is made of the Greek
characters with a variety of accents (they are precomposed characters).
This report is to track the process of adding support.

The toolbar seems useless if "focus-follows-mouse" is turned on, since
it becomes inactive on focus out. This also affects the status icon.
By focus-follows-mouse, I mean the "Select windows when the mouse moves
over them" option in the "Windows" capplet. If you turn that on, and
move the move from the window you are working in towards the toolbar or
statusicon, the window looses focus and the status icon/toolbar turn
inactive, so you can't do whatever you wanted to there in the first
place...
