ibus-libpinyin upstream supports cloud input function, which can greatly
improve user experience
Cloud input support can be enabled by adding the --enable-cloud-input-mode flag
to the build configuration.
This cloud input option is optional and turned off by default. It does not
violate Fedora Packaging Guidelines
Reproducible: Always

Issue reproduced with gedit on GNOME + Wayland.
Description of problem:
When typing Sinhala text with ibus, the characters shake and wobble, making
writing experience uncomfortable. Letters sometimes disappear for a moment and
reappear. Two cursor positions or wrong cursor positions seem to appear during
the process. The latter is somewhat similar to the issue described here
https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/pango/-/issues/684
Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
How reproducible:
Reproducible throughout the system.
Environment : Fedora 37 beta, GNOME on Wayland.
Applications : Gedit, Firefox, LibreOffice.
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Enable Sinhala input with si-wijesekera
2. Type : isxy, NdIdfjka ,sjSfua oS wlqrq Tn fudn mksk whqrq ksrSlaIKh lrkak'
(සිංහල භාෂාවෙන් ලිවීමේ දී අකුරු ඔබ මොබ පනින අයුරු නිරීක්ෂණය කරන්න.)
3. Typing any meaningful chunk of text can actually demonstrate the issue.
Actual results:
See attachments
Expected results:
Smooth typing without shaking, wobbling and disappearing/reappearing of
characters. The issue is already there to a lesser extent on Fedora 36 too. So
I am unable to show you a video of the ideal expected result at the moment.

Summary: Chinese input methods use previously enabled layout
Product: Fedora

Classification: Fedora
Description of problem:
ibus-libpinyin (and most probably several other input methods) uses `default`
keyboard layout instead of `us` or whatever fits best. This effectively means
that the last keyboard layout (non-IME) will be used for the pinyin input. For
users which use non-Latin keyboard layouts, such as Russian or Ukrainian, this
makes pinyin input unusable.
Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable): 1.12.0
How reproducible: easily.
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Enable pinyin input method in your settings.
2. Switch to e.g. Russian layout.
3. Switch to pinyin IME.
4. You will type Russian letters and pinyin IME will not trigger.
Actual results:
`4. You will type Russian letters and pinyin IME will not trigger.`
Expected results:
`4. You will type *Latin* letters and pinyin IME *will* trigger.`
Additional info:
There are two workarounds:
1. Manually patch `/usr/share/ibus/component/libpinyin.xml` and change `layout`
to `us` from `default`. I don't know how this will work with non-QWERTY
keyboards though.
2. Switch to a Latin layout before switching to pinyin.

Hello,
Starting from RHEL 8 for the Traditional Chinese locale, ibus-chewing has been
replaced by ibus-libzhuyin. But ibus-chewing remains available on every Fedora
releases. Its main dependency - libchewing is also already available via EPEL 8
and 9.
I use both the Fedora Linux and RHEL in my work environment. On my Fedora box,
I always prefer ibus-chewing rather than the default ibus-libzhuyin. I did
tried to use ibus-libzhuyin on the RHEL machines, but the overall experience is
much more problematic.
At first, I thought there might be some serious compatibility issues to build
ibus-chewing on RHEL 8 and 9. But turns out it is actually not the case (at
least for v1.6.1, not the newer releases). Just with a very little revision,
the source rpm of ibus-chewing from Fedora 40 can be built successfully and
workable on EL 8 and 9. The reproducible procedure will be like:
1.
sudo dnf group install "Development Tools"
sudo dnf install cmake ibus-devel libchewing-devel glib2-devel gtk2-devel
libX11-devel
2.
wget
https://download.fedoraproject.org/pub/fedora/linux/releases/40/Everything/…
rpm -ivh ibus-chewing-1.6.1-25.fc40.src.rpm
3.
Modify rpmbuild/SPECS/ibus-chewing.spec, comment out the following line:
BuildRequires: gettext-runtime
4.
rpmbuild -ba rpmbuild/SPECS/ibus-chewing.spec
-Done.
Please help to branch and build ibus-chewing 1.6.1 for EL8 and EL9. Thank you.
Reproducible: Always

Classification: Fedora
Using Mozc for Ibus input method on Gnome (I understand the default is Anthy,
but Anthy has several limitations compared to Mozc).
The default system language and input method is ENG. What happens is that when
using the default Super + Space shortcut to switch back from JP Mozc to ENG,
only Space is registered. (Tested on different keyboards, so not a hardware
issue). Which means, I can go from ENG to JP Mozc with Super + Space, write in
JP, but then cannot go back to ENG _inside a text box_, that is, going back to
say an empty desktop, the shortcut will work.
This happens on gtk3 apps like Firefox and Gnome Terminal and gtk4 as well,
like Text Editor. Only on Wayland, though. It is working on X11.
Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Super + Space to switch input method to ENG to JP Mozc.
2. Write in japanese.
3. Super + Space back to ENG.
Actual Results:
Cannot return input method to ENG with the same default shortcut.
Expected Results:
Return to ENG via Super + Space.
ibus-mozc 2.29.5111.102-3.fc39
gnome-shell 45.2-1.fc39
ibus-wayland 1.5.29~rc2-6.fc39
Inside of the config file for Mozc I have
active_on_launch: True
to drop into Hiragana. Removing it does nothing.
