Bug ID: 2020514 Summary: Ibus got installed on upgrading to Fedora 35 but it doesn't work with KDE/Qt apps Product: Fedora Version: 35 Status: NEW Component: ibus Assignee: tfujiwar@redhat.com Reporter: raghu+fac@raghukamath.com QA Contact: extras-qa@fedoraproject.org CC: i18n-bugs@lists.fedoraproject.org, shawn.p.huang@gmail.com, tfujiwar@redhat.com Target Milestone: --- Classification: Fedora
Description of problem: I was using KDE's plasma keyboard layout switcher to switch between input keyboard layouts. Upon upgrading to Fedora 35 KDE spin, ibus got installed, But ibus doesn't work with plasma desktop environment. I can't type in local language in Qt apps and even on plasma desktop like krunner etc despite switching to another keyboard layout. It works in GTK apps but not on any Qt apps. Since Qt apps are common on KDE plasma environment ibus becomes a hindrance.
Removing Ibus doesn't bring back the old native plasma keyboard layout switched this rendering the plasma keyboard layout switcher KCM useless.
Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
How reproducible: always
Steps to Reproduce: 1.Use ibus on KDE plasma environment.
Actual results: Ibus doesn't work in Qt apps and plasma apps
Expected results: layout switching should work across gtk as well as qt apps

--- Comment #1 from fujiwara tfujiwar@redhat.com --- The Problem is that Plasma Wayland does not launch ibus-daemon.
You can use Plamsa Xorg desktop instead or run ibus-daemon by manual and export QT_IM_MODULE=ibus by the desktop login before you launch QT5 applications.
I have one idea to modify /usr/libexec/plasma-dbus-run-session-if-needed to launch ibus-dameon but you still have to export QT_IM_MODULE=ibus by manual and there is another problem.

I don't touch Plasma keyboard settings with KIM panel but IBus itself works fine.

IBus switcher should works in Fedora 35 and you can use ibus-setup utility.

--- Comment #4 from Ben Cotton bcotton@redhat.com --- This message is a reminder that Fedora Linux 35 is nearing its end of life. Fedora will stop maintaining and issuing updates for Fedora Linux 35 on 2022-12-13. It is Fedora's policy to close all bug reports from releases that are no longer maintained. At that time this bug will be closed as EOL if it remains open with a 'version' of '35'.
Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, change the 'version' to a later Fedora Linux version.
Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that we were not able to fix it before Fedora Linux 35 is end of life. If you would still like to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it against a later version of Fedora Linux, you are encouraged to change the 'version' to a later version prior to this bug being closed.

--- Comment #5 from Jens Petersen petersen@redhat.com --- I think it is better in F36 and particularly F37.
